#Zimbabwe is being suffocated by rampant corruption and unprecedented failures in service delivery. It is also evident that the overwhelming majority of #Zimbabweans across the nation are being affected and are becoming less sympathetic. If those in power truly believe that ���the voice of the people is the voice of God,” then they must heed the cries of the suffering masses.

A government that truly respects its mandate would be singularly focused on fulfilling its electoral promises, not on perpetuating its rule. Instead of governing with competence and vision, the regime has been fixated on consolidating its grip on power and hoodwinking the public with hollow slogans rather than actioning genuine developmental plans. We are merely two years into this term, but already the national discourse is being hijacked by the self-serving agenda of prolonging political dominance rather than addressing the immediate and pressing needs of the citizenry. This push for an extended term may in part have been intensified because many of the current political players now know that their likelihood of reelection (in a true democracy) is slim! The eyes of #Zimbabweans are now open - the citizens wont be pacified by false promises and sloganeering.

As our nation continues to be held hostage by the internecine conflicts within the ruling party, we stand at a precarious juncture.. #UZA has no vested interest in the current #ZANU-PF factional power struggles, but I do want to see our nation progress. It is IMPERATIVE for government to prioritise national interest over its insatiable appetite for power retention. The people have spoken - loudly and unequivocally. The Constitution of Zimbabwe must be upheld and democratic principles must be respected. The call for accountable and transparent servant leadership is not just an option - it is a necessity for the survival and prosperity of our beloved Zimbabwe..

I am proud to have launched a new entrepreneurial initiative that is much needed for Zimbabwe, and for the future of our continent. The inaugural training session for the ELISA Business Scholars Program took place November 12-15, 2024, in #Hwange Zimbabwe. We convened a cohort of highly accomplished #entrepreneurs from 10 #African countries and 7 industry sectors. They were the top candidates selected from a pool of over 500 applicants. The Scholars have also been paired with a business expert as their coach for the year-long program. With the help of their coaches, the scholars will advance their ideas and refine their business strategies.

It's just the beginning! This year, we also launched The ELISA Business Summit, a multi-day annual event designed to foster a thriving #PanAfrican network of business leaders, who won’t just build their own enterprises, but will strengthen our communities and our economies. As part of the ELISA Summit, we hosted the Enterprise Leaders & Innovators Dinner to showcase and celebrate the 2024 cohort of ELISA Business Scholars and other African innovators.

Our youth have the potential to drive sustainable growth, and we must equip them for success. With the youth unemployment crisis impacting our continent (especially here in #Zimbabwe), young entrepreneurs need real opportunities that help them to showcase their ventures. This in turn will drive growth and create jobs.

I am honored to lead this movement as we continue to invest in our future. I invite you to follow our progress on the ELISA Business Network. I’m at the National Multi-Stakeholder Post-Election Review Conference for the 2023 Harmonised Elections & raised the question of diaspora votes. It is essential that millions of #Zimbabweans around the world be able to exercise this democratic right. Independence of @ZECzim is also vital. Amendments should be made to limit the President’s reach and ensure that #ZEC is not beholden to the President.

Many are asking why I was not at the #SADC gathering. To be candid, my view is that opposition parties present at the summit were there to sanitise the facade of a matured democracy, yet we all know the reality. We must hold our national leaders to account. We expect them to deliver real progress for the people, not just celebrating ceremonial positions.

It's a fact that in 2015, the late President Robert #Mugabe assumed the roles of AU Chairman and SADC Chairman. Just as it was then, the current appointment to the SADC Chairmanship is simply a matter of rotation. It's important to recognise that this is nothing more than routine! It's not an extraordinary achievement, therefore, the excess celebration, and the national expenditures incurred are unnecessary. It is our turn as per the rotational system, nothing more.

What truly matters is not the title but what it means for the people of #Zimbabwe. Charity begins at home. If we are to expect anything positive from holding the SADC Chairmanship, it should first be reflected in tangible improvements within our borders. Sadly, reality is far from this. The majority of #Zimbabweans continue to suffer under economic hardship, and we have witnessed the continued violation of citizens’ rights.

The SADC protocols and guidelines on governance, which our government is expected to uphold, remain a distant promise for the ordinary Zimbabwean. Instead of celebrating a title, we should be focusing on ensuring that these commitments are fulfilled. In our own country we must see them implemented before we seek to project them onto the regional stage.

I have observed the many disturbing images and videos on protests and violence in the United Kingdom. Such acts of barbarism, which appear to be primarily directed at foreign nationals, have no place in our modern society.

My thoughts are with the over 100,000 #Zimbabwean nationals residing in the #UK, many of whom work in healthcare, transport, financial services and various other sectors. These individuals (who we have lost as a nation) contribute significant value and skilled labor, aiding the UK, its citizens and its economy. They deserve respect, honour and protection for their dedicated service and time sacrificed away from their homeland. We pray for their safety and mental well-being during this challenging time.

UZA Condemns the Unjust Arrest of CCC Members-
On June 16, 2024, approximately 70 #youth were arrested at the residence of Honourable Jameson Timba in #Avondale, Harare. The heavy-handed police action targeted a peaceful meeting organised by the Citizens Coalition for Change #CCC. The authorities described the gathering as unsanctioned, an accusation frequently used to suppress political dissent in Zimbabwe.

Police intervention reportedly turned violent and it was claimed the youth were provoked, leading to clashes. Such incidents clearly reveal the oppressive tactics employed to stifle opposition voices and the blatant disregard for constitutional rights. Sections 58 and 59 of the Zimbabwean Constitution explicitly protect freedom of assembly and association, as well as the right to demonstrate and petition, but these rights were flagrantly violated during the arrests.

This event is not an isolated incident, but part of a broader pattern of intimidation and political repression plaguing Zimbabwe. The systematic targeting of opposition gatherings underscores the urgent need for reform and the protection of fundamental human rights.

The United Zimbabwe Alliance (UZA) strongly condemns these actions and stands in solidarity with the fellow arrested citizens. As part of our commitment to promoting a democratic and just society, UZA proposes an action plan:

Advocate for Legal Assistance: UZA will advocate for legal assistance and the release of unjustly detained citizens. We will also develop an agenda for legal reforms to safeguard political freedoms and prevent such abuses in the future.

Policy Reform: In our Party Manifesto, UZA commits to reforming the Public Order and Security Act (POSA) to ensure that it cannot be used to unfairly target opposition parties. We will work to create an environment where political participation is protected and encouraged.

Youth Empowerment: Recognising the pivotal role of youth in driving change, #UZA continues to implement programs to empower young people politically and economically, ensuring that they have the tools and platforms to advocate for their rights and become active participants in the development of #Zimbabwe.

UZA remains steadfast in our commitment to safeguarding the rights of all #Zimbabweans. Citizens rights and political diversity must be respected rather than suppressed. The aggressive crackdown on peaceful gatherings is a direct attack on democracy and justice. We urge all Zimbabweans to come together in support of a society that is fair and equitable for all.

Alarming to know that 41% of girls and 59% of boys in #Zimbabwe have fallen prey to alcohol, #drugs and other substance abuse. Skunk #cannabis, illegal #alcohol, cough medicines and other intoxicating substances are being used extensively throughout our country. A year ago there was in intensive anti-drug campaign by @PoliceZimbabwe - but this seems to have dwindled.

To date, not one arrest of a major drug dealer has been made and alleged drug kingpins continue to walk free. The fight against drugs is not a seasonal program. It has to be a daily campaign. We can't beat the symptoms while avoiding the real problem.
