Today marks my 2 year “anniversary” of leaving practicing ABA (Applied Behaviour Analysis).
I do not advocate for ABA. I feel ABA is a humxn rights issue. Let me explain why.
A THREAD.
I’ll come back to this, as it’s almost like opening pandora’s box. For now, the above is my experience as an ex-ABAer, having learned from actual autistic people and since learning of my own neurodivergence (having ADHD, the thread might be all over the place, bear with me).
We have had multiple requests for a platform where people can come together and improve their mental health, as well as that of the Autistics that they support.
With that in mind, we would like to launch the Wellness Well.
This last word on the list of values got me thinking about how NONDISABLED people usually control the narrative around what constitutes 'dignity' and how to treat people who don't have it.
Mr Joseph George talks about his journey as a parent of autistic twins. He talks about the hardship and spreads a message of hope and highlights the importance of educating Africa on Autism. ZekwandeFoundation #ActuallyAutistic#AskingAutistics#ListenToNonspeakers

"What would your superhero name be, and why?" asked Thabo Siwelo's therapist at @SpellYourMind after a long lockdown hiatus.
Pointing to a letterboard, the young nonspeaking autist said, "I would be Thabo the Relentless Communicator, because I never stopped trying to be heard."
One of the nonspeaking autistic clients at the @SpellYourMind Therapy Centre asked to end his session with these words yesterday:
“In persistence despite hurdles we find our growth. Don’t throw in the towel and miss out on a lifetime of potential happiness.”
