For engineers and founders who would like to build an AI app: @SpilltApp shared a great technical read about how they built a new feature, an AI meal planner, that uses AI. Highly recommend reading it.
Spillt shows how @supabase and Postgres are the Swiss Army knife of modern app development.
They're using all the built-in tools, and layering in AI for more smarts where it enhances the experience.
If you're running a content-heavy app/site, you should def read this.

New Year, New Me[al planner]
We've added AI-powered suggestions to the @SpilltApp meal planner, making it easy to match your diet requirements with (real! tested!) recipes from our database of over 300k recipes.

The @supabase guide to hybrid search made it an absolute no-brainer to implement. We had it running in a matter of days, but wanted to fine tune a bit further...
New on @SpilltApp – hybrid search! We've been blending keyword search with semantic search to try to find the best matches for your recipe queries. For added fun, we're launching a debug mode that lets you fine tune your own algorithm! More below >>
We just launched our favorite feature yet on @SpilltApp: save recipes from cookbooks, powered by AI.
Our community wanted Spillt to be a one-stop place for all their favorite recipes – whether those are on a blog, a Reel, or even in a cookbook.
Here's how we built it:
@TimSondrup We completely realize that not everyone is comfortable sharing phone number (which we understand completely!) and can also share that we’re hoping to implement Google/Apple login in the coming months. For us this was about keeping things lean (a team of two!) to begin with.
@TimSondrup Hey Tim! Two main reasons — most importantly, it reduces spammy accounts dramatically, which was important for us to keep a safe community. Second, it’s also just helped keep things simple (we don’t have passwords — just a one-time code whenever you log in or sign up).
We're thrilled for @SpilltApp to be featured by Apple! As a fun behind the scenes, the featured image was plated and photographed by @mbaum22. The lentils and burrata are from @smittenkitchen and they are delicious ☺️ https://t.co/P7J9XCFXIC
“In order to develop a product, we knew that we really had to understand the problems we were solving — both for the consumer and for the food blogger.”
Pretty much sums it up!
We loved having this conversation with Bjork, and are excited for what’s in store at @SpilltApp!
We were feeling inspired💫 by @supabase's vector store, and used it to overhaul the search functionality for @SpilltApp – an app for saving and sharing recipes.
The coolest part was that we got an initial version working in a day(!) so we wanted to share a bit about the process.
