Recently, I listened to a few of my productions from several yrs ago & I realized how much better I've become by experience.
There's a lot you can learn from books, video tutorials, online courses, etc. But there's a level of knowledge & confidence you can only gain by practicing

I might not agree that "experience is the best teacher" in every case, but when it comes to mastery of a skill, experience, certainly is the best teacher.
Whatever you're aiming at, you can learn so much more by doing than you can ever learn through courses, books etc.
