@AsclepiasSyrica@moh_in_law also atheism still would not meet the definition. it is not a moral philosophy(it is compatible with many different moral theories) and makes no claims about the natural world.
@AsclepiasSyrica@moh_in_law a better definition of religion is something like “moral philosophy that derives its force from appeal to metaphysical powers or claims and asserts its own set of truths about the universe and/or the origin and meaning of natural phenomena”
@AsclepiasSyrica@moh_in_law if religion were merely proselytizing that which is impossible to prove, then all political ideologies are also religions. no one can ‘prove’ that liberalism, say, is the best way to run an economy. it depends on standpoint and values. the definition is not restrictive enough.
Some advice for @KamalaHarris if she wants to win over support from pro-Palestine ppl
1. Admit there’s an ongoing genocide perpetrated by the Israelis
2. Admit you and Biden were wrong to support Israel
3. Admit you and Biden were wrong to silence anti-zionism protesters
4. Admit anti-zionism is *not* antisemitic, but a real & reasonable political and moral stance
5. Admit a disproportionate % of the Dem party is beholden to the Israeli lobby
6. Pledge not to take any AIPAC money ( or their subsidiary fake PACs)
7. Pledge to stamp out AIPAC controlled politicians (both parties) out of Congress
8. Promise to support the ICC
9. Promise to sanction Israeli govt officials
10. Promise to investigate and prosecute US govt officials who aided and abetted Israel’s
war (Biden and Trump admin) by prolonging the fight and lying about negotiations (ie Antony Blinken belongs in jail)
@AsclepiasSyrica@moh_in_law this is also a different question from your original point. whether or not the nonexistence of God is provable is unrelated to the question of whether atheism constitutes a religion. religion means more than merely “postulate which is not proven.”
@glitchpoke not a big fan of aoc generally and i agree with your larger point but to devil’s advocate that particular decision: perhaps she thought that coming out against Biden would make the party turn in favor of him by making anti-Biden sentiment “left”-coded
Is it Dauve who said that political power no more grows out the barrel of a gun than out of a voting booth, but rather when commodified people (the proletariat) undo their commodification? A passage more should take to heart.
Karl: Israel is a Jewish state. That’s in the charter. Do you support that?
Mamdani: I’ve said time and again that I support the state of Israel as a state with equal rights.
Karl: As jewish state?
Mamdani: I believe that any state that privileges one religion over another is one that I can’t tell you I support, whether it be Israel or Saudi Arabia or anywhere else. And a lot of that comes back to a fundamental belief that we should all be considered equal, no matter what our faith is.
Lumumba Vea, DR Congo's most iconic supporter, will miss the Leopards' decisive World Cup match against Uzbekistan after failing to obtain a U.S. visa. Stranded in Mexico, he was forced to return home to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, meaning he'll also miss any remaining matches if DR Congo advances. I've seen enough. This is the worst-organized World Cup I've ever witnessed.
