My big brother Dr Mzamo Masito has published an important book. Boys are being left behind. We need to do something about it. The title of this important work is “This country hates our boys. Boys, you are on your own.” Available Exclusive Books.
There was a time when I looked in the mirror and didn’t recognise the person looking back. Gender dysphoria is real. It is a pain that lives under your skin and makes every breath feel heavy. I thought if I changed everything, I would finally be free. I believed that peace was waiting on the other side.
At first, it felt like the world was cheering for me. People called me brave. They said I was finally living as myself. I smiled and tried to believe it. But when the noise faded, I was left alone with the same sadness, the same emptiness, the same questions.
I don’t speak for anyone else, only for myself and those that can relate. Some people find happiness in transition, and I respect them completely. But my truth is different. For me, the peace I hoped for never came. The depression stayed. The nights were still long. The thoughts were still dark. And I began to wonder if I had been chasing something that no one could truly give me, peace inside my soul.
People said I did it for attention. They said I was confused. They judged my story without ever asking what it felt like to live inside my mind. They didn’t see the nights I prayed to wake up without pain. They didn’t see how badly I wanted to survive.
I also began to face new fears. I was worried about my body and what I had put it through. I was worried about my health. I worried about the life I might never bring into the world. I had to sit with those thoughts. They broke me for a while. But they also taught me how sacred life is, how fragile we all are, and how important it is to make peace with the body that carries you.
I won’t lie. There were moments when the pain felt unbearable. Moments when I wanted to give up. Moments when I believed the world would be better off without me. I don’t say that for sympathy. I say it because someone reading this might feel the same way right now. If you do, please reach out for help. Talk to someone. Call a crisis line. Tell a friend. There is no shame in wanting to stay alive.
Healing didn’t happen overnight. I had to learn to stop running. I started talking to God again and was desperate for him, not out of habit, but out of desperation. I told Him everything. The guilt. The fear. The confusion. The regret. The hope. He showed me who I was beneath all the labels, beneath all the noise when he told me to sacrifice it all for him. Slowly, He did show me. Slowly, I started to feel peace.
The dysphoria still comes sometimes. The sadness still whispers. But I no longer let it control me. I sit with it, breathe through it, and remember that peace is not perfection. Peace is survival. Peace is breathing even when it hurts.
To my trans brothers and sisters, to anyone who is questioning or hurting, please know I am not against you. This is not judgment. This is my truth. Everyone’s path is different. Everyone deserves compassion.
To those who stand outside our pain and call us attention seekers, please stop. You don’t know the nights we survive. You don’t know the weight of trying to live in a body that feels like a war zone. You don’t get to define our pain.
If you feel lost, please hold on. You are not broken. You are not too far gone. You are not alone. There is life after confusion. There is light after darkness.
Faith saved me. God never left me. He waited in the silence. He met me in the middle of my chaos and showed me that love never left.
I am still learning. Still healing. Still human. I have scars, but I am alive. I am not ashamed of my story anymore. It is mine. It is real. And it might help someone else stay alive.
This is my truth. Yours may be different, and that is okay. Let’s meet each other with honesty, with respect, and with love.
