Currently researching the life story of Llanelli-born John Graham Chambers, Victorian sports administrator and principle author of the Queensberry Rules for boxing.

@HenleyRegatta Hope this happens again next year when I'm around to take part. (Was already booked to be away with the family in Lanzarote - where I did get a little cycling in!)
@sportingintel Response to the recent north of England Olympic bid idea suggests that mentality persists. If No 10 North survives for a couple of decades, the ingrained prejudice may begin to subside - which would be a major positive for the country as a whole.
@sportingintel Clegg probably recognised that metropolitan bubble of Westminster, Whitehall and MSM simply couldn't get their collective heads around the idea of a provincial Olympics. Impossible to win over the IOC if those domestic stakeholders weren't on board.
@RowingVoice@HenleyRegatta@henleyresults No race times showing on the live feed yet - as heralded by Sir Matt's recent social vid - (apart from occasional glimpses of the Fawley signal!). Something for later in the regatta, when there aren't two races on the course at the same time??
With @HenleyRegatta in full flow, on this the 110th anniversary of the start of the Battle of the Somme, it's an appropriate time to re-post this:

Have you seen tonight's Repair Shop? They restored an old presentation oar from OUBC 4-.

@holland_tom@TheRestHistory Listening to your World Cup National Anthems series. Haven't heard you mention yet that it was Wales that introduced anthems before international sporting fixtures:

@lufcstats Hi @lufcstats Not stats strictly speaking, but these two posts might appeal.

@patmurphybbc Same applies to No. 10 pretty much every night. When was the last time a "source" from No 10 or No 11 popped out to whisper some scoop into ChrisMason's ear rather than send him a text, WhatsApp or email?
Have you seen that Ebenezer Cobb Morley, a founding father of the FA, #Hull-born (possibly in our car park), had a seaside gaff at Hornsea? @Hull_Museums@hull_libraries
106 years of Olympic ice hockey! 🏒🤩
Did you know that before the first Winter Olympics at Chamonix 1924, both ice hockey and figure skating made their Olympic debuts at the Summer Olympic Games at Antwerp 1920!
Representing Canada, the Winnipeg Falcons won gold while Team USA took silver and Czechoslovakia the bronze.

Saw that maiden flight, aged 7, from our front garden in Chepstow. Years later, on 24 Oct 2003, I was in Green Park to watch three Concordes in succession make their final approaches to London Heathrow. Beautiful aircraft, unsustainable business model. ☹️
#OnThisDay in 1969, the first British-built #Concorde 002 makes its maiden flight from Filton to RAF Fairford.✈️ Learn more about this icon here👉: https://t.co/TbFR3tGEXQ #OTD#AviationHistory
Truly a privilege to go again. With Adare Manor hosting and the 100th Anniversary of the Ryder Cup, it is going to be a very special week
Let’s go! 🇪🇺🇮🇪
@timchambers82@lufcstats@JQBirmingham@LUFC@BCFC I don't think that's correct. Fatorini's of Bradford designed the cup but it was probably manufactured by various craftsmen in Sheffield. There is a Fatorini's in the Birmingham jewelry quarter today which is descended from the Bradford firm. More here: https://t.co/1lNgxbRxml
@martcrossy@FXMC1957 When I was in LEC at the time of WeHoRR in 2023 there was a display case which contained helmets of both Graham and Damian. https://t.co/rjGaMYQtcf
