Al Davis, owner of the Raiders, would hear of current or retired NFL players who were having serious health issues, (their team affiliation did not matter) and not only reach out to them personally, but in most cases pay for their medical bills.
He never told anyone other than the very closest to him, and this info only came out near to his passing.
