@OnDisasters Speaking of Bass Strait, another single-engine light plane (BRM Aero Bristell) with 2 people aboard disappeared in that strait one year ago.
@OnDisasters The cockpit crew's survival was so lucky that, according to a journalist who had years of relationship with the captain, he and the flight engineer regarded the date of the accident as their second birthday.
@OnDisasters A more curious aspect about the fatality index of Aeroflot Flight 3352 is that the 5 survivors include the whole cockpit crew of 4. When the Tu-154 broke apart upon impact, the cockpit effectively became an escape capsule and protected its occupants from serious injury.
@OnDisasters Aeroflot Flight 3352's the deadliest air disaster in Russia but not in Soviet Union (surpassed by Flight 5143, which went down in Uzbekistan).
@OnDisasters That 1988 accident in itself isn't the last involving Ilyushin Il-14: there're at least four later crashes, three during polar exploration missions and the last one during a Chinese charter flight.
@OnDisasters@ferlxv EC-GBT? It's supposedly a CL-215. Anyway, firefighting flying boats crash almost every year and replacing them with drones should be a priority.
@Daspletosaurid@OnDisasters You got the point. As a matter of fact, Air Niugini Flight 73 is the first fatal airliner accident for which an inside-cockpit video footage is available.
@OnDisasters Similar to the 2015 Hawker Hunter airshow crash in UK, the pilot of the accident jet miraculously survived without using an ejection seat.
The mysterious (and not airworthy) Mexicana 727 accident
September 21, 1969: Mexicana Flight 801, a B-727, crashes in Mexico City: 27 of 118 aboard die. Jet was on approach, in landing configuration, when it suddenly lost height and hit a swamp some 0.9 mi from the airport.
The cause remains undetermined, partially as plane had no functioning βBlack Boxesβ(CVR/FDR) β which would, legally, deem the aircraft not airworthy β and also because all the flight crew were killed in the occurrence.
On an eerie note, one of the cabin crew on duty retired after surviving the crash. However, she would later perish in another occurrence, in 1986, also involving a Mexicana B-727.
@alainpaulok@OnDisasters May I ask if this accident well-known in Argentina? Were the crew subjected to disciplinary action, or did they receive an accolade?
