It won’t show up but I swear I just saw a libertarian video where a guy says that janitors shouldn’t have a minimum wage cause it incentivizes bosses to send their job overseas
@Adict_fli @tristanbard0516 Very funny to read that “in practice” line as Lenin legitimately thinking someone as close as Bukharin was a secret advocate of bourgeois capitalism over the debate on the formal trade monopoly
Point being there’s clearly powerful underlying psychological reasons people are drawn into fascism that are also coupled to economic anxieties and whatnot. It’s simplistic to just assume the masses are just all misinformed until socialists come along.
I have to finish Mass Psychology of Fascism,so much discourse about rural Americans on here is summed up by Reich’s line that Marxists mostly just explained fascism by saying the people were basically tricked into fascism despite masses of people enthusiastically participating
Another great cycle of people finding out that Tucker Carlson is in fact reasonably clever and competent, but is *also* evil. These two facts coinciding sometimes always perplex people
“I love you too” is one of the worst phrases. Reciprocity cheapens its meaning. An admission of love should be immaculate conception, born of nothing. I love you. Don’t say it back
@Tupacisoverit It’s neat how few people discuss Stalinism or Marxism-Leninism on its theoretical merits but instead just try to count up a historical scoreboard and use that to prove their positions on everything are correct
Didn’t read anything about the Abundance stuff, glad it took care of itself and seems to be imploding (for the moment) cause people pointed out it was just a property scheme in the interests of landlords
@AdamantDimak Beyond the legitimate misunderstandings of history I think it’s another one of those expressions of the impotence of the modern socialist movement. Yearning for an idealized man of steel to sweep in and decisively take care of all the harrowing shit in the world
This is one of the defining characteristics of Trotskyism: the treatment of Marxism as divine revelation, with a line of transmission from elder prophets to latter saints. "Theoretical development" is about knowing which Great Men are canonical and faithfully reciting catechisms.
@wadehwallace People dunk on Kant a lot but I do like his emphasis on being good for the sake of goodness itself, not for some gain or because of some pragmatic calculations
Confused as to what you would test in regards to Platonism. “It’s better to suffer an injustice than to commit one” is a bit hard to put under a microscope
@TNOQuoProQuid Is there a good article or some such on this myth that JFK was some kinda anti-CIA/imperialism warrior? I hear it said a lot from old right wingers and it’s really weird
@BadMouse101 At least in the book I’ve been reading o think the idea is that Fichte’s dialectic reveals a higher truth that shows that the contradiction was only apparent (I may be wrong there) but Hegel’s sees contradiction as an actual property of the world itself in its development
