@TheStalwart Maybe it’s because we know more global news. I think for most of human history, your reality was constrained more by place. But now that the internet has connected us to global events , the potential to be exposed to big deal news has grown, just because sample size has grown
@soblackandblue@AliceFromQueens@Noahpinion the data doesn’t mean progressives have more mental health issues than conservatives. They have more “diagnosed” mental health issues. Maybe conservatives have more undiagnosed mental health issues and the reality is more even
@soblackandblue@AliceFromQueens@Noahpinion Idk, still makes more sense that progressive culture is more comfortable with therapy / getting mental health support that would lead to more diagnoses . People’s lives are characterized by more than political views !
@AliceFromQueens@Noahpinion@AliceFromQueens , I'm not saying this take it right, but it makes more sense (by a lot) than progressivism causes mental health issues. this is probably more a correlation situation than a causation one
@evanwch When I finish his book, I want to read yours next. Anyway it’s interesting because his previous book was on guns (more “progressive” coded), his new book speaks to building community and has a chapter on the “cult of credentialism.” And little on identity politics so far
@ZaidJilani Really the comment from Walsh tells you everything about libertarian ideology , and how it cant imagine values beyond profit maximization , regardless of the social cost.
@matthewstoller I agree but also think it’s more subtle: An insular group of democratic elites is afraid of losing power , and one way it differentiates itself from outsiders is their stance on Israel. A democratic party led by Israel critics represents an end to their elite status/importance
@puakev@jbarro With mail in voting allowed on the day of the election and a population the size of California ? Which countries? (Btw im not making excuses for high speed rail, and agree with the criticism you’re raising there)
@evanwch Broadly speaking the “relationship” I wish we focused on was the relationship between every elected official and the common good (or their relationship with their constituents). A lot of elected officials harm the public good without this much scrutiny
@ZephyrTeachout@EmeritaTorresNY even though it doesn't always feel like it, every loss like this: exposes who supports capital over the people, and in that way, gets us closer to winning. The question on strong surveillance pricing legistlation isn't if, it's when
