महात्मा गांधी. Gandhi Jayanti.

[Joy Bhattacharjya @joybhattacharj]

October 2nd always reminds me of of two cars.
The first, a Fiat purchased by Lal Bahadur Shastri in 1965 when he was Prime Minister. He had to take a loan of Rs 5,000 which was closed by his wife with the pension she received after he passed away in Tashkent.
The second, a broken down Ford car. The Ford used to be drawn by oxen, and Mahatma Gandhi would proudly call it his Ox-ford when bemused visitors would comment on it while visiting Sevagram.
Two of our greatest leaders were born on this day, one who was grounded enough to roam around in a broken down car drawn by oxen, and the other with so much integrity that he could not afford to buy a car outright when he was the Prime Minister of this country.
Mahatma Gandhi stood a frail 5'5" and Shastri just 5'2". And yet they were giants!

As Chikitha Taniparthi became the first 🇮🇳 to win 2 gold in Nagoya, father Srinivasa was sowing paddy. With no TV or phone, he didn't see her compete. But Chikitha's journey began only because he bet the farm on her, mortgaging it to buy her first bow.

Inside Man: How Chinese spies used lies, love and betrayal to target the Federal Reserve https://t.co/3FUh5SKEZG

“The facts of this case read like a spy novel,” federal prosecutor Nicholas Hunter told the jury at Rogers’ trial in 2026. “There was sex. There was money, manipulation, secret meetings with shady characters in China, fake identities, lies, trickery, and deceit. But this was real life. The events of this case all happened.”

Photographer Edmonds captured this boy in remote Nepal doing ‘namaste’. The photo became a huge hit. 7 years later, she found him again but now living in poverty. This inspired her to form the Namaste Children’s Fund, helping children in that area to access education. How one innocent greeting helped change so many lives. 🙏

It fills me in awe when I see so many inspirational stories in our country- of people who have dedicated themselves selflessly to a cause. And here is an example….

Bull markets produce chest-thumpers.
Bear markets produce crybabies.
Be calm and considerate.

It is in the nature of stocks to fluctuate.
It would be a bigger problem if they didn’t.

What an amazing effort from Neeru Dhanda! 🥇

The 26-year-old from Jind is no stranger to winning international gold medals. She took individual and team trap gold at the 2025 Asian Shooting Championships, then became the first Indian woman to win an ISSF World Cup trap gold in 2026.

Now she has an Asian Games gold to add to that record. What a run for the Naib Subedar in the Indian Army! 🇮🇳
