IIT | Macro & Markets | Strategy | Ex Mckinsey, Revolut | Economics is the map. Markets are the battlefield. Asymmetry is the signal. act when it surfaces.
What Prof @CafeEconomics mentioned Kindleberger Spiral along w/ Harberger’s triangle offer two complementary frameworks to explain the economic inefficiencies & historical dangers of tariffs. Market distortions like tariffs disturbs the Equilibrium. Let me explain 1/n
An apt day to remember the Kindleberger Spiral, showing how world trade collapsed during an earlier episode of retaliatory tariff hikes. Hopefully, better sense will prevail nearly a hundred years later.
Since 2014 - Telangana has uploaded only 85,998 G.Os on its portal, compared with 2,60,818 in AP.
Why are 1.16 lakh Telangana G.Os. missing from the public domain?

the government is both the subject of criticism and the regulator of criticism.
so if the institution being challenged can control the mechanism through which it is challenged, how does accountability survive?
#JantarMantarProtest: Justice Joymalya Bagchi says that if protest is not with permission, it is not in accordance with law
Sr Adv Gopal Sankaranarayanan objects: IT'S STILL LAWFUL
J Bagchi says Court is not saying people do not have right to protest, but if protest is without permission, there is possibility of prosecution.
When information is produced under selection pressure, the information becomes strategically filtered. therefore the fastest way to select is often not the fastest way to know.
never confuse information about the person with information produced by a selection mechanism.
Nehru and the founding generation solved the legitimacy problem by expanding political membership and simultaneously constructing an institutional mechanism capable of making that expansion real.
now ECI is making the determination process itself politically distrusted.
Electoral roll is the entry point, therefore whoever controls the entry point carries enormous legitimacy responsibility
ECI doesnt only need to produce a correct roll. it needs to produce a roll that citizens & competing political actors can regard as procedurally trustworthy.
Reason why BJP govt goes soft on CJP. a govt doesn't necessarily fear criticism. it fears alternative organizing principles. CJP stops at criticism which a govt can often absorb it.
a movement can be anti-govt without yet possessing an alternative theory of what they want.
CJP is a movement consists of educated young people frm diff ideological background fed up with issues plaguing the nation. they agree on more accountability & unncessary state power but they don't possess an integrated answer to what kind of humansociety are we trying to create

I have a lot to say about the constant attempts by some to discredit CJP, but honestly, there’s no point.
The youth is already frustrated with exactly this kind of bickering among established political parties, where everyone seems more concerned about their own prominence than the people they claim to represent.
The formation of CJP was one big accident which ended up giving hope to millions. Fighting for those youth and the issues they face is far more important than wasting our energy fighting with those who have already decided to discredit us, no matter what we do.
Conditional reciprocity- a very old human mechanism. Kings gave bread. employers gave bonuses. patrons gave protection - politicians give subsidies. modern democratic institutions didn't eliminate the underlying reciprocity mechanism, they institutionalized it at enormous scale.
If Republicans win the House of Representatives and the Senate in the 2026 Midterm Elections, I’m going to give all adult citizens in the United States of America, $5,000! Thank you for your attention to this matter, and I look forward to signing those checks!
You don't fully know the value of a structure until its absence exposes the problems it was solving. this happens everywhere.
that's why families, institutions, norms, routines and relationships can feel unnecessary while they are working.
People frequently understand the value of something counterfactually. Freedom feels valuable when you remember constraint. constraint feels valuable when you experience the consequences of unrestricted freedom.

some facts currently function as unexplained primitives within our best explanatory framework bcos history repeatedly shows that yesterday's primitives can become tmrw's derived phenomenon. so philosophy or science has to justify its own means of knowing.
Science can explain a lot of what and how. But it does not explain the why of everything.
Some facts just exist. They arise because of our existence and conscious observation. For example laws, constants, and initial conditions.
Like the gravitational law, the speed of light, and a low entropy start of the universe.
We can describe them, find how they work, and use them to predict the future. But it is not the same as knowing why they are this way instead of another way.
Or why do they exist at all?
Understanding a model (science) is not the same as having the reason behind the world. That is we don't know the why of many things including our own existence. And epistemology predicts science can never get such whys.
In Indian Nyaya, we have already stated this thousands of years ago: Pratyaksha and Anumana are valid, but they have range.
They do not automatically reach the fundamental. Only self realization can, they say. The Nasadiya Sukta, the oldest documented human philosophical pondering, states this perfectly:
"Even the one who looks down from the highest heaven, perhaps he knows, perhaps he does not".
our institutions should be designed on the assumption that students can catastrophise ordinary failures. we have clear rules - predictable consequences - proportionate process - opportunity to recover - mentorship - psychological support.
I saw the video of Sahil Wakode being asked to leave exam hall. he was using his phone sitting on the 1 bench*. politely asked to leave, he gets up and goes. shame doesn't have to come from someone humiliating you. sometimes your own perception of what you have done can be enough
reservation itself is an institutional mechanism responding to historical & social inequality. whether that mechanism is effective/appropriately designed or has particular consequences is a separate empirical/policy question
an election's true product is not a winner. it is loser's belief that the process was fair. strip that belief away& the election produces a govt w/o legitimacy which must then rule by force or intimidation. opacity at the systems's entry point poisons every downstream result #ECI
The Election Commission of India is under fire like never before.
The SIR has struck 13 crore names off draft rolls, putting the EC at the centre of intense public debate over its role in deciding who gets to vote — and who doesn’t.
HOWEVER, what nobody knew: through that same period, some of the sharpest questions were being asked from inside.
Out today, after months of work. Our #ExpressInvestigation 🧵

What is the natural habitat of a human life?
not a house, house is only infrastrutuce.
It is - relationships + movement + exploration + work + play + learning + nature + conversation + solitude + creation.
a house is supposed to support these things not the other way.
Feeling full vairagyam after watching politicians’ luxury home tours…
మనిషికి కావాల్సింది ఆరు అడుగుల నేల. కాలిపోతే అది కూడా అవసరం లేదు. చివరికి మిగిలేది ఒక కుండ బూడిదే.
