I hate this increasingly popular notion that fiction gives creators free pass to do whatever they want. This mindset has undermined entire genres.Fiction allows creative freedom, not freedom from logic, factual foundations, or internal consistency.Even imaginary universe needs rules
Wrong move, @GMMTV . You should have been transparent from the very beginning. You should have clearly explained that Scarlet Heart Thailand was a fictional adaptation developed through an international collaboration involving Myanmar and other cultural influences, rather than allowing the project to be presented in a way that gives the impression that everything originated from Thailand alone.
That clarification should have been made before the production began, not only after questions and criticism started coming in. Transparency matters, especially when a project draws inspiration from another country's culture, history, traditions, or artistic identity.
You cannot simply announce Scarlet Heart Thailand, establish it as a Thai version of a familiar story, and then overlook the cultural elements borrowed from or inspired by another country. Fictionalizing a story does not automatically erase the cultural origins of the elements used in it. And international collaboration should mean more than just working together behind the scenes. It should also mean acknowledging the contributions, influences, and cultural identities that helped shape the final work.
This is where the concern about cultural appropriation—or what some may perceive as cultural appropriation—comes in. The issue is not that Thailand cannot create its own adaptation or reinterpret a story through its own creative lens. Of course, it can. The issue is whether the cultural influences being used are properly acknowledged and represented, rather than being absorbed into a project that is promoted as exclusively Thai.
If Myanmar's culture, creative contributions, or other cultural influences played a meaningful role in shaping the project, then those contributions deserve recognition. No country should have to watch its cultural identity become part of another country's entertainment product without clear acknowledgment.
GMMTV, the entertainment industry is international, and audiences today are more informed and more observant than ever. People notice where stories come from, which cultural elements are being used, and whether credit is being given where it is due.
You have every right to create a Thai adaptation, but you also have a responsibility to be transparent about its influences and collaborations. Cultural exchange should build bridges between countries, not create the impression that one country's cultural identity belongs exclusively to another.
This is not about attacking Thailand or denying its creativity. It is about accountability, respect, and giving proper recognition to the cultures that contribute to a production. If the project is truly a collaboration, then let the acknowledgment reflect that from the very beginning—not only when people start asking questions.
Hot take: Being in the industry for a long time or being old enough doesn’t automatically make you mature, media literate, or media trained. Some people are just getting older, not growing up.
used it in your series without even asking us or acknowledging us?
It honestly hurts to realize that the love and support we’ve given you aren’t being returned in the same way 💔🥺

Bl actors running to their mommies to act like victims when the options are shutting up or taking accountability is growing so fucking old. And it always works 🙄
"we love you 🥺"
"take care of yourself ❤️❤️"
"you did nothing wrong 🫂"
It gets to a point
Gmmtv managers should stop letting their actors use twitter lol you guys are gonna lose a shit ton of fans by showing us your real personalities pls give these actors some media training bruv😭😭
Whenever I visit Bangkok, I always go to Wat Arun, wear a Thai traditional outfit, hire a photographer, and take photos because I love it so much.
But now, seeing the company use Myanmar traditional clothing without giving credit or properly acknowledging it makes me feel like my crush doesn’t love me back.

Myanmar is already one of the poorest countries in Asia. Our cultural heritage and traditional clothing are among the few precious things we have to be proud of. If you use our costumes without acknowledging or crediting us, the world may come to believe and belong to your country instead. We may not be a wealthy nation, but our cultural heritage is priceless. Please don’t let our identity be forgotten naaaaa(っ ̯ -。)

We acknowledge GMMTV's statement as a first step. However, our concerns remain, and our requests for proper cultural explanations, acknowledgement, and on-screen credits have yet to be fully addressed.

shooting bertahun-tahun, investasti ke series ini jg MAHAL tp kok ya masih aja gmmtv kecolongan pas riset kultur dan budaya negara SENDIRI??? endingnya malah ngeles scarlet heart thailand jadi scarlet heart ASEAN 😹😹 makanye jgn fokus nambah artis baru mulu ege MALUUU
Really @GMMTV, so why it's named "Scarlet Heart Thailand", name it "scarlet heart multiverse"!!
I mean, isn't the objective of remake is to bring the storyline along with culture aspects of that country, what cmth did, other remake series did too!
What's the point of thai remake with Chinese culture elements, when there is already a full fledged chinese drama of same story! Make it make sense🙂
GMMTV, this statement came three days too late, and even now, it still fails to address everything we have been asking for.
Scarlet Heart Thailand incorporates traditional cultures and artistic elements from neighboring countries, yet there was no clear public acknowledgment of these cultural influences when production began or when the trailer was released. Even after criticism and concerns grew louder, it took three days for GMMTV to finally issue a statement. Cultural acknowledgment should never come only after public pressure forces you to respond.
From the very beginning, GMMTV should have been transparent about the project’s cultural influences and international collaborations, rather than presenting it in a way that could give audiences the impression that these cultural elements originated exclusively from Thailand. If Myanmar’s culture, Chinese cultural elements, Lanna traditions, or other cultural influences contributed to shaping this production, they deserve to be properly acknowledged and credited.
Our request is simple: give proper cultural credit at the beginning of every episode. Clearly identify and acknowledge the Lanna, Chinese, Myanmar, and other cultural influences used in the series. This is not an unreasonable demand. It is a basic matter of respect, transparency, and accountability.
No country should have to watch its cultural identity become part of another country’s entertainment production without clear acknowledgment of its origins. A fictional setting does not erase cultural origins, and creative adaptation does not excuse the failure to give credit where it is due.
And what about the traditional oil-lamp offering dance of the Rakhine people? Your statement has yet to address this concern or explain how it will be handled. This is not simply a matter of costume design or artistic inspiration. It is a traditional cultural practice with religious significance. It deserves to be treated with understanding, sensitivity, and respect—not simply incorporated into a fictional scene without addressing the concerns surrounding its representation.
Please understand that this is not about attacking Thailand or denying anyone the freedom to create. It is about respecting the cultural identities of others and taking responsibility for how those cultures are represented.
Had this controversy involved another country, the consequences could potentially have been far more serious, including the possibility of the series being prevented from airing. That possibility should not be dismissed simply because the country involved is Myanmar.
GMMTV, a delayed statement is not the same as a complete resolution. We are not asking for words issued only after controversy erupts. We are asking for meaningful acknowledgment, proper cultural credit, and a clear response to the concerns that remain unanswered.
Respect should have been there from the beginning—not only after people demanded it.
