Game Designer, Professor, and Princess Caretaker. Writing about Game Balance.
ENFJ-A, HSP and gifted. My superpower is making people around me shine ^^
Well, I think it's time to stop being kinda ashamed by this so let's share it with the world: I am gifted and also highly sensitive.
I'll explain a little bit more of what that means (for me) in this thread.
In case I pin it, I'll also add: A loving heart is the truest wisdom.
Four souls share one girl's body and only one can stay.
- A horror adventure game where dialogue is central
- Question each soul and weigh what it tells you
The better you know them, the harder it gets
It's called UN:Me. Any interest?
If you call yourself a creator, you must at the very least feel a sense of aversion toward the idea that your work might turn out to be "mediocre."
And if you're not a genius, you shouldn't skimp on the effort it takes to avoid that.
@Lorango_Tango All I can say is,
never follow thad trends and think more deeply about a/the project than anyone else does. That’s all. These may seem simple, but they’re things most people try to do but can’t.
1. First, I rule out designs that are trendy or that people are likely to like.
2. I think there are various ways to approach that, and I don’t have a specific method of my own.
3. The key is not to follow the trends.
That's all.
@_marcinek12@KatDoes3D No, theorists are not good and unfortunately it’s a common problem among game designers. But not having a method and just doing things unprofessionally is also a common problem among game designers. A mix of both approaches is required imho.
@KatDoes3D + watch the old Extra Credits videos (at least until the one about the “Ma”).
+ play games as a designer, not as a gamer. My gf is fed up with me assessing the non-return-points on every level
@KatDoes3D Read at least these 5:

Reverse Design: Super Mario World - Patrick Holleman
A theory of fun for Game Design - Raph Koster

The art of Game Design: A book of lenses - Jesse Schell
@tabinokino@cxgonzalez I am a 2200 rated player. 15 years ago I realized that everyone on my level spent >12h studying every opponent. Plus studying positions and plans for every little thing, and keeping up with updates weekly. Not doing that meant not having a chance against them. I didn’t. 0 regrets
This japanese indie developer is making a dark fairytale horror adventure game inspired by Alice in Wonderland.
It's called Don’t Return to Wonderland, are you interested?
An indie developer is making a super cozy title where you run an intergalactic brewing business as space racoons, exploring alien planets in search of rare ingredients.
It's called Coffee Raccoons, are you interested?
Indie developers be like: Here you go, a roller coaster in your action platformer.
It's called isekizima Ruins and Tails Journey and is content complete, so me might yet see it in Q2 2026. Who's in?
People have no idea that all of this is available on archive dot org for free, like every other old children’s show which isn’t a funnel for developing a gambling addiction. You can just watch all of these 90s Beatrix Potter adaptations right here: https://t.co/OklEKfHHNo
