Students DON’T learn to ‘calm down’ by being told to calm down. They need to be taught ways to label their feelings (stop, name that feeling, do something about it).

4. Children and young people do best when they are supported and contained by the people who are closest to them; and the most powerful 'therapeutic' interactions happen in day to day relationships. We need a system that recognises, values, supports and enhances this.

Important message at this time as our young people are returning to school

[East Ayrshire Psychological Services @eac_psychology]

So we’re re-tweeting this one from last year. Change the language, change the perspective, change the story, change the child. There’s always hope.
