My limerick for 2nd May
Thanks to Bijan for his help in this process.
I had 18 blessed years living close to, and worshiping in, this beautiful and welcoming church.
Be fruitful and multiply...
Congratulations to the church of St Michael's Mount Dinham, Exeter, which today (150+ years after its foundation) has become part of a new independent parish. Laus Deo.
@GretelleMaitre Although 400 miles away now, my childhood roots are there in the Blackmore Vale at Fifehead Neville and Fontmell Magna.
So your Dorset wanderings were one of the things that drew me to your podcast, Gretel.
Flowers for our beloved father, Tim barnes, vorn on St George's Day 1928.
Grew up in Bedchester near Shaftesbury. A #Dorset man at heart. Also lived in Bridgwater, Gloucester and North Wiltshire.
Opposite on Mount Dinham stands the magnificent grade 1 Victorian Gothic St Michael & All Angels Church, consecrated in 1868, where i had the joy of singing 2006-21.
It contains this window depicting the Psalmist David which is dedicated to the memory of S S Wesley. 2/2
#SSWesley150 150 years ago today, 19 April 1876, church musician Samuel Sebastian Wesley died in Gloucester. His coffin was taken by train to Exeter where he was buried in St Bartholemew's cemetery near the Catacombs.

@Gda1238 Likewise my great-grandfather, Jack Prideaux, aged 23. He embarked at Southampton as a 3rd class steward, leaving behind in Bournemouth a 3 year old daughter, Eva, my grandmother and her unmarried mother.
His body was never found. RIP
...them, or felt pressured to run away, we know not.
He joined the Titanic as a 3rd class steward.
A tragic death for a bright young man that fateful night... and aherald of so many more that decade.

He embarked at Southampton, leaving behind a 3 year old daughter, Eva, and her unmarried mother.

@GretelleMaitre Have a superb day, Gretel
Back in the late 80s I sang a couple of choral concerts in the magnificent Chapel at Sandhurst with Surrey Heath Festival Chorus, in my Bracknell days.
Stunning reredos, if I remember rightly.
#OTD AD978 teenage King Edward died.
Church of St Edward, King & Martyr, #Cambridge.
Married there April 1993, visiting last June.
By coincidence I grew up near Shaftesbbury #Dorset where Edward is thought to have been buried.
It was a great privilege to be at St Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral in Edinburgh on Saturday for Frikki Walker’s final service as Director of RSCM Scottish Voices.
