Learner generated examples led to some lovely mathematical thinking in S2. After a day with addition/subtraction, pupils asked, "Can we multiply?" They quickly accepted that 3 x 2/5 is like saying 3x2 fifths=6 fifths. I added more fractions to let them try some division!
Equivalent Fractions with my S2 class.
This worked out as a lovely low entry, high ceiling task for a mixed ability class. I wanted to represent fractions in a new way so that pupils who already had an understanding of equivalence were learning a different representation.
Attendance at our Virtual Higher Maths Supported study continues to be strong. The good news is there's plenty of room for more so why not join us next Thursday 19th Nov 6pm for Recurrence Relations? The exercise is linked and contains the Team code. https://t.co/eu8d2bWo5V
