USD correspondent banking in the Pacific has dropped 60% since 2011. Tonga's importers can't reliably pay suppliers in Singapore. Two local banks have already lost their USD accounts.

For years, crypto's biggest obstacle wasn't technology. It was not knowing which regulator would come knocking, or when.

That's changing with the CLARITY Act. For exchanges, builders, and institutional teams, the question is no longer whether a compliance framework is coming. It's whether your operations are ready for it.

One part of that readiness doesn't get enough attention: data infrastructure. How reference prices are derived, how asset classifications are maintained, and whether market conditions can be reconstructed on demand are no longer questions only traders ask. Regulators will ask them too.

In 2026, crypto compliance is shifting from a reactive legal strategy to a core infrastructure requirement, where regulatory standards like MiCA and the GENIUS Act must be architected into the protocol level from day one.

We're seeing major jurisdictions move toward fully enforceable, crypto-specific frameworks that mandate real-time monitoring and institutional-grade custody standards.

Europe is leading the way in CBDCs, the digital Euro.
Below is the official/expected timeline:

2023: EU drops the first digital euro package and kicks off the rulebook for Money 2.0.​

2025: ECB closes the preparation phase and moves the project into the next build‑out stage.​

2026: Target for passing the main Digital Euro Regulation in Parliament and Council.​

2027: Earliest pilots and limited‑scope rollout pencilled in policy and market analyses.​

2029: A full retail CBDC in the wild moves from thought experiment to realistic scenario.
