Letter #4 on my Substack. I decided to do a “Letters” section because sometimes I want to write about topics other than modern science, systematic philosophy, and Catholic dogmatic theology. I’m a mother too, and there are questions I had along the way. This one in particular has vexed me for years. Why is baptism delayed for a newborn?

There are no words for the kind of fear a mother suffers when she holds that baby in her arms at long last and desires with all her heart that this child receive what the Lord himself affirms is necessary for eternal salvation that will assure this child entry into eternal beatitude—Baptism—only to be told to wait a few weeks so the celebration can be communal.

It is immensely satisfying that AI directly answers my questions. In this respect, I think humans can learn from AI and do better.

People ask if AI is conscious without defining that word, and then they continue on in ambiguity as if science will someday answer these mysterious concepts. Meanwhile, they act as if philosophy and theology are relics—and the concept of the human soul is ignored.
