God has wisely woven into humans a defense mechanism to weighty and painful circumstances. He allows us to become numb and disengaged in the midst of overwhelming painful stimuli.
It is His way of anesthetizing us while events play out beyond our control. It may feel like depression and we may at first hate it. We will find ourselves emotionally numb to pleasant experiences as well.
We must not panic. The Lord knows how to carry us through and it is during these times we must speak the truth within our hearts and lower our emotional expectations. He will awaken our hearts again.
A season of emotional apathy may be necessary to grow us in dependency on truth. The very thing we may be resisting could be the very thing the Lord is using to carry us through.
"...in the shadow of Your wings I will make my refuge, Until these calamities have passed by." (Ps 57:1) - Maureen Schaffer 2017
Worship reminds our trembling hearts and shaky knees that our God is mighty, our God is loving, and our God is more than able. Worry less. Worship more. It truly is the best battle plan.
🎗️ National Cancer Survivors Day is a reminder that survivorship is shaped by the lived experience.
Survivors and caregivers offer critical perspectives on what it means to live with and beyond cancer—insights that inform research, improve care, and guide resources across the cancer continuum.
This year, our Office of Cancer Survivorship is honored to share new stories from cancer survivors, told directly in survivors’ own words. Explore these and other survivor and caregiver stories: https://t.co/AJE5gB6YWj
Today was another of my regularly scheduled “spa days”—cozy blanket, comfy chair, pillow in place, and a few hours dedicated to healing. Not exactly the spa experience I would have chosen, but here we are. 😊
Cancer has taught me that strength doesn’t always look like running a race, lifting weights, or standing on a stage. Sometimes it looks like showing up for treatment with a smile, settling into the chair, and trusting the process one infusion at a time.
As I sat here today, I thought about how many people are walking this same road: patients, survivors, caregivers, and families whose lives have been forever changed by cancer.
This Sunday is National Cancer Day, a day to celebrate those who have faced cancer, honor those we have lost, and recognize the resilience of everyone affected by this disease.
To my fellow survivors: I see you. I celebrate you. And I know the courage it takes to keep moving forward, especially on the hard days.
Today, I’m grateful for another treatment, another opportunity to heal, and another reminder that hope is stronger than fear.
💜 Here’s to the fighters, the survivors, and the caregivers who never stop showing up.
National Cancer Survivors Day 💜
Today is a reminder that survival is about so much more than a diagnosis.
It’s about finding strength on the hardest days, holding onto hope when things feel uncertain, and choosing to keep moving forward one step at a time.
I’m grateful to be here, grateful for the lessons this journey has taught me, and grateful for every person who has walked beside me along the way.
To every survivor: your courage is inspiring, and your story matters.

Andrew and I are in Washington, D.C. today, where I had the honor of testifying before the FDA on behalf of cancer patients everywhere.
We’re fighting to bring #ANKTIVA and natural killer (NK) cell therapies into the spotlight, giving hope and new options to those who need them most.
Please watch the testimony. I hope it resonates with you.
Together, we’re pushing for real progress. @bullishbruk@DrPatrick
Thank you so much for your incredible support and continued generosity. It’s finally happening!
Andrew and I are flying to Washington, D.C. tomorrow, and I will be testifying before the FDA to help get natural killer cells and ANKTIVA released and available to all cancer patients. I can't promise it will happen, but I can promise I'm fighting for you.
Please keep us in your prayers.
Your kindness has truly meant the world to us. We would not be able to make this trip without your support, and we are so deeply grateful.
Here’s a quick update...
Slowly and without any noise your parents will become your beloved children. From that moment take care of them like your own children, like your own babies.
Most people never think twice about plastic water bottles.
Dr. Leo Trasande joins me to discuss how microplastics and toxic chemicals are entering the human body—and the practical steps Americans can take to reduce exposure. Full episode out now.
