Today @Stailc81 paid our respects to the 1981 hunger strike leader, Oglach Bobby Sands. Before being immortalised in words and song Bobby stated "I was only a working-class boy from a Nationalist ghetto. But it is repression that creates the revolutionary spirit of freedom".

Entries are welcome in both English and Irish.The contest is open to anyone resident in Ireland or abroad in the following three age categories: 12-15, 16-24, 25 plus.

February 25 1957 – May 21 1981.

Ray was born in Camlough, South Armagh. He passed away an Irish martyr in the H-Blocks of Long Kesh, aged just 24, after 61 days on hunger strike:

Patsy O'Hara became O.C. of the INLA prisoners at the beginning of the first hunger strike in 1980.

On Thursday, 21 May, at 11.29 p.m., he died after 61 days on hunger strike. His last words to his mother Peggy were "Please mammy, let the fight go on!"
