From a meteorological viewpoint this storm was a huge disappointment. Just think of all the perfectly good snow days we missed out on because it snowed on a Saturday.
Ground based ozone can cause a number of issues from smog to lipid oxidation. Honors Chemistry students study the effects of prolonged ozone exposure on tissues by exposing lemons to O3 gas.
Due to multiple electrostatic attractions, ionic compounds tend to have very high melting points. Honors Chem students study these properties by heating sodium chloride to over 1400 F.
Because I didn’t win the lottery tonight our science classes will be held tomorrow as scheduled. I’m not really surprised as my odds of winning were about the same as they were for people that actually bought a ticket.
So far today we have picked up 1.46 inches of rain, pushing our storm total to 9.23 inches. In an average year, KC receives 38.86 inches. This means we have picked up about a quarter of our annual yearly precipitation in less than a week.
Hope everyone had a happy aphelion day. At 11:46 am the earth reached it’s farthest point from the sun at 94,507,803 miles. In case you were wondering, we will be about 3 million miles closer to the sun at perihelion in January.
