@ArmVonStrong@SeloSlav Given the amount of money the film has generates relative to that investment, I don't think a large return on that budget and the crew being rewarded for its success are mutually exclusive ideals.
@trillspot@BoarSoulless@esjesjesj Those numbers for the UK are all arrests under the Communications Act 2003 and the Malicious Communications Act 1988, which cover a broad spectrum of offences including, but not limited to, stalking, harassment, death threats and fraud. Not just on social media.
@cerbari1@evil_scott It wasn't created as a satire, no. But it contains a lot of satire. You can't look at quotes like, "Blessed is the mind too small for doubt" and come to any other conclusion.
@XV20_Camry@transjewtalian It's a contraction of "having a Chinese/Indian meal/takeaway" in the same way as "having a full English" is a contraction of "having a full English breakfast".
@Maryja_1904@scarlet_rush@KeithTalentless Deaths aren't reported as heat stroke unless they're from heat stroke. There is reporting of excess mortality during heatwaves though, as it can be a contributing factor in the deaths of the sick and the elderly.
@TAmTrib Completely different causes and economic impacts, though. The decline in Britain's population then was the result of the civil wars, epidemic disease and reduced agricultural output due to climate change. It was a temporary downturn caused by a confluence of terrible events.
@AFGuidesHD@ifellonithonest Of course it does. Germany didn't attack Poland out of nowhere, it came after a period of acute revanchism ans expansionism. Britain realised that appeasement wasn't working and opted to guarantee Poland. Germany thought they were bluffing and continued expanding. They weren't.
@AFGuidesHD@ifellonithonest Per your sources, the reason for the US displeasure with British foreign policy was that Britain seemed nonchalent in the face of Germany pissing over a previous diplomatic settlement and swallowing up the rest of Czechoslovakia.
@greedyasapig11@0Calamity While it's awful that anyone is raped, that represents 0.09% of the London population, never mind the millions of visitors each year. You also have to be careful with crime figures, as they can be a reflection of better crime recording than higher levels of crime.
@Chris5H2@chilternbear11@QuinlanQuinlan I'm not a cyclist. I'm just not a fan of motoring infrastructure taking up half of public space, so seeing some of it taken away fills me with immeasurable schadenfreude.
@PanictheRaptor@RockChartrand "It struck me that if only such animals became aware of their strength we should have no power over them, and that men exploit animals in much the same way as the rich exploit the proletariat."
@PanictheRaptor@RockChartrand Orwell himself had this to say about the inspiration for the farm setting:
"I saw a little boy, perhaps ten years old, driving a huge carthorse along a narrow path, whipping it whenever it tried to turn."
