Detroit Longshot Vision: Why a Boring Company Loop Portal Could Transform the Busiest US-Canada Border (And Why I'm Betting On It)
By STARBOSS | Galaxy Star Network (@STARDUStDETROIT) – January 19, 2026
I'm a proud Detroiter with a brain injury, but that doesn't stop me from dreaming big. Today, I submitted a bold idea to The Boring Company's "Tunnel Vision" contest: a high-speed underground Loop portal connecting Detroit, Michigan, directly to Windsor, Ontario.
Yes, it's a longshot. But longshots sometimes win—and I'm not giving up on Detroit.
As a PremiumPlus subscriber and huge fan of Elon Musk's companies (Tesla, SpaceX, xAI, The Boring Company), I saw this free contest as my chance to pitch something real. One everyday person could spark a multimillion-dollar project that brings jobs, innovation, and pride to my city.
The Big Problem We're Facing
The Detroit-Windsor border is the busiest commercial crossing in North America. Over 25% of all US-Canada trade—billions of dollars in goods—moves through here every day. Trucks, cars, and people get stuck for hours at the Ambassador Bridge or the old tunnel. Delays cost money, waste fuel, and create pollution.
Surface options are maxed out. Weather, traffic, and customs make it worse. We need an alternative that skips the surface entirely.
My Idea: A Detroit-Windsor Loop Portal
The Boring Company's Loop uses electric, autonomous pods in underground tunnels—fast (up to 150 mph), zero-emission, and direct.
My submission proposes simple portals:
- Detroit side: Downtown or near the airport
- Windsor side: Downtown or Highway 401
You board, go underground, clear customs seamlessly, and pop up minutes later on the other side. Perfect for people, light freight, and trade.
This fits Elon's goal: end soul-crushing traffic with smart tunnels.
Why Detroit Is Ready (And Why This Fits Elon’s World)
Detroit isn't waiting for the future—we're building it:
- We're the largest US city accepting Bitcoin and crypto for taxes starting in 2025
- We're blockchain-friendly and love the crypto scene
- We're innovative, resilient, and forward-thinking
A Boring Company project here would match that energy perfectly. Crypto + futuristic tunnels = a win for commerce, jobs, and the planet.
Why I'm Doing This
I have a brain injury, but tools like Grok (built by xAI) help me organize big ideas and write clearly. This proves anyone can succeed with the right support. I'm betting on this longshot because Detroit deserves it. We're innovative. We rise.
If The Boring Company picks this, it could bring thousands of jobs and billions in growth. Let's make Detroit the next Loop city.

Detroit Vision Submitted: A Boring Company Loop for the Busiest US-Canada Border**
By STARBOSS | Galaxy Star Network (@STARDUStDETROIT) – January 20, 2026
Yesterday, on MLK Day—a national day of service—I submitted a proposal to The Boring Company's Tunnel Vision Challenge: a ~0.98-mile underground Loop connecting downtown Detroit to downtown Windsor.
It's a longshot, but longshots built Detroit. And if selected, a free multimillion-dollar tunnel built by Prufrock could transform our region—saving riders 10-20 minutes per one-way trip (cutting peak border waits of 10-30+ minutes down to ~5-10 minutes total) ~985,000 hours per year in aggregate (conservative estimate). That's core to Elon's mission: ending soul-crushing traffic and giving people back their time.
The Problem & My Solution
The Detroit-Windsor corridor handles ~25-30% of all US-Canada surface trade ($100B+ annually). Congestion at the Ambassador Bridge and 1930 tunnel wastes hours daily. The new Gordie Howe Bridge helps freight, but passenger trips need a modern bypass.
My idea: A dedicated passenger Loop (parallel/offset to the existing tunnel) with portals in both downtowns. Electric vehicles zip riders underground in minutes—zero emissions, no surface delays, streamlined customs. 10-20 minutes saved per trip, scaling to ~985,000 hours/year aggregate**. Strategic redundancy too (remember the 2022 blockade?).
Why Detroit Deserves This
Detroit is rising as a tech hub:
- First major US city accepting Bitcoin/crypto for taxes (2025 rollout).
- Innovative, resilient spirit—we're building the future.
A Boring Company project here fits perfectly: crypto-friendly city + futuristic tunnels = iconic showcase.
My Why (Quiet Winner Vibe)
I have a brain injury, but I believe deeply in the tech being built—Tesla's Full Self-Driving (which I look forward to), SpaceX, xAI's Grok (which helped me research/write this proposal 100%). Tools like Grok level the field for anyone dreaming big.
I've quietly sent The Spirit of Detroit to the moon: My Detroit-based moon art flew on SpaceX, carrying our city's resilience into space and now resides on the Moon’s surface. I designed and wrote an after-school grant program in the early 2000’s 21st Century Learning Centers grant (CCLC) (still running through Bright Futures, impacting kids daily). Service is my core—submitting on MLK weekend felt right.
If this wins, it's not just a tunnel—it's validation for Detroit innovators, for people betting on tech, for quiet builders. And massive time saved for real people every day.
Support Needed
Deadline: Feb 23, 2026. If you know decision-makers in Detroit/Windsor (chambers, city offices, tourism, business leaders), I'd love intros for letters of support. Stakeholder enthusiasm is a key criterion—let's rally for this idea together. DM me @STARDUStDETROIT.
@boringcompany@elonmusk – Detroit is ready. Let's rethink Point A to Point B underground—and give people back their time. 🚀🕳️🇺🇸🇨🇦
