Governance is the heart of decentralized public blockchains. Astar has relied on the Astar Forum for governance, but as the network grows, this centralized approach no longer fits.

With on-chain governance still in development, the Astar Foundation is boosting community involvement in governance. ASTR stakeholders are key in shaping the network's future and making decisions about its operation and growth.

To foster a strong governance culture, voting will move from the forum to Astar Townhall. This off-chain platform, built by @townhallgov team, will use $ASTR tokens for voting and will be open to the entire Astar community.

On Astar Townhall, token holders and network users can start discussions and proposals. Voting power is tied to the number of ASTR tokens in your address, including those secured in dApp Staking.

To propose a new governance action, start a discussion on the Astar Forum for 7 days. After that, the proposal will be up for voting on Townhall for another 7 days.

When creating discussions and proposals, be thoughtful. Only proposals that benefit the network and are free from abuse or personal gains will be considered and implemented.
