Marketing Friday! In case you do not know, I have a dark fantasy novelette (first in a series!) about a bored tavern maid whose life gets turned upside down when her village is attacked by a monster. Check it out!

On 21 November 1969, Apollo 12 was already on the way home when Earth lined up between the spacecraft and the Sun. The crew photographed that eclipse from the command module.

What you see is a dark circle with a bright rim. The circle is Earth, and the light around it is the Sun leaking past the atmosphere. This is not a lunar eclipse and not the usual solar eclipse from a backyard. The blue planet is the disk that covers the star.

Conrad, Gordon and Bean had left lunar orbit and were on the transearth coast. For a short time the geometry was perfect: Moon behind them, Earth in front, Sun hidden.

Hard not to picture the three of them at the window when it went dark like that. After the Moon, after launch and landing, home is suddenly a black coin with fire around it. I imagine someone just went quiet for a second, then reached for the camera.

Today is the 6th birthday of my first book, Talia: Heir to the Fairy Realm.

Inspired by the idea, what if Maleficent was Aurora's mother, and what if she's not really evil, this book and the series brought me back to writing.
