In recent years there has been an explosion in private schools cashing in on their brands abroad. Objections about human rights abuse and education censorship are cast aside in the name of £profit.
The Charity Commission refuses to take action against the public school charities
With all this "levelling up" talk, I have been discussing with heads what schools need. Guess what? They are much clearer than the government is. And it is way more than cash for a few "red wall" seats. https://t.co/K1Uid88Lb1
Too right - state schools need the same level of funding as private schools. An excellent piece from @schooltruth. @bphillipsonMP@StephenMorganMP

With ongoing disruption in schools, particularly those in disadvantaged areas, there must be more support provided for education recovery.
Further help is needed to ensure the attainment gap doesn’t continue to widen.
NEW: State schools are almost twice as likely to be affected by teacher absences than private schools.
Our latest polling shows that Covid is causing serious disruption in schools.

As a parent it's great to see this. We are an underused resource when it comes to children's learning; schools often seem keen to keep us at arm's length or focus on telling us stuff like what uniform kids should or shouldn't wear rather than engaging us as partners #education
Looking for clear and actionable advice for working with parents to support their children’s learning?
Our guidance report includes recommendations in four key areas.

@PEPForum@ISM_Plus Anecdotal evidence to support the stats - 1) the kids from my child's Year 6 class who went private received bursaries and are from well-off families, 2) none of the less well-off kids from the class went private
@comp_future@SecModerns It'a also apropos of nothing - if there was some new research showing that grammar schools promote social mobility you'd kind of understand, but there isn't
@KentTories@CFoEducation Why luckily? Haven't you read the research showing that grammar schools don't contribute to #socialmobility? I'd assumed you would want to get rid of them in the pursuit of #LevellingUp
@PEPForum@harrowschool@ReptonSchool@DulwichCollege @MarlboroughCol @UKLabour@KateGreenSU@JulieR_isc@ISC_schools Genuinely interested to know what the evidence is 1) that these opportunities are life-changing (e.g. in what way, how many kids), 2) that bursaries widen access (for how many kids, what income level), 3) for partnership projects with local state schools (I'm not seeing them)
Lots of criticism of grammar school systems in this well-argued personal piece, but is the answer really reform? Why not open up grammar schools to all local children and let these excellent schools work for everyone in their communities. https://t.co/0UQaWjOtbz
NEW: Did you know? Those in Britain’s top jobs are five times more likely to have attended a private school than the general population.
We're exciting to announce an expansion of our employability work to help our students access careers.

@PEPForum@james_tooley Also, isn't the idea of "consigning children to the state sector" awful - so arrogant and dismissive, like we're chucking them in the bin. There are lots of great state schools, and many children do extremely well in the state sector @Telegraph#education
@PEPForum@james_tooley There is nothing inherently "good" about private education. Good results come from selection and high funding. Expanding reach and reducing funding (an effect presumably of making it cheaper) would weaken these advantages.
The gap between funding per pupil in private and state schools has more than doubled over the last decade.
Funding per pupil in private schools is almost twice that in state schools. At sixth form it is three times as high.
New from @lukesibieta @TheIFS https://t.co/jp2Hc5PUdu
A core problem facing state educated students today is chronic underfunding and under-resourcing.
If the government is serious about #levellingup, this issue needs to be urgently addressed.
