This is part of why we have a tech shortage. Students get trained on obsolete tech.
I rebuilt a carb in school. not helpful.

We get new techs often that don’t understand voltage drop. makes it hard to make a living.

On subarus tires typically only wear the transfer clutches prematurely. cheap fix comparatively.

i do engine work on modern cars all the time.

And i hate to tell you this but the magic laptop doesn’t give you the answer. You still have to diagnose. but now you have to understand electricity.

You can drive around any toyota or subaru with the DCM completely removed.

@Magnum_442 @FrankBr05713205 It’s not and it even spells it out under most warranty policies but i have yet to see the dealer i work for deny a warranty claim due to tuning a car.

We’ve had tow ins, from a tune shop w/5000 miles, blown engine get their car fixed for free.

It’s just when they do, the repair cost is higher.

Hands down, cars of today are far more reliable than cars when i started wrenching professionally.

mileage is written down due to state law.
hardly anyone documents fuel level.

And this is done because it would blow your mind how many people try to blame the shop for pre-existing damage.

most “shady” behavior = customer not understanding what needs done and advisor poorly communicating to them

@FrankBr05713205 @ahlstar24 This is true. I have never seen an electric rack break due to anything other than direct impact-curb, etc

But like most car repairs..we just find broken parts. I generally don’t have a clue why something broke. nor do i have time to find out why
