VALENCIA MARATHON UPDATE - INCREDIBLE RUNNING FROM STAZZA'S STABLE STABLEMATES.
Great day in Valencia yesterday with loads of PBs. I'll cover the race and some of the training in this week's podcast. Here are a few of the stars on the day:
Alex Farrington 3:30:29 - 16 min PB
Iain Geraghty 2:56:32 - 25 min PB for sub 3
Sean Stokes 2:40:14 - 8 min PB
James Whittington 2:28:45 - 24 min PB (runs 5 times per week and 50 mpw - only started running 18 months ago)
Ben Clarke (56 yrs young) 2:48:46 - 6 min PB
John Cosgrave 2:59:35 - 15 min PB for the sub 3
Great day for Stazza's Stable in London and Manchester. Shout-out to James Whittington who dropped his PB from 2:28:47 down to 2:25:17 - event though he's working 14hrs a-day and only running 50mpw.
@rickyegan_ @brady_h I can only work with what comes my way. And many of the sub 3s started out as slower than 4hrs and got there within 8 months to 18 months. Talent isn't required to break 3. Biggest issues are weight, age, and inappropriate training.
@travelexx @kdtimms25 @brady_h Yeah, 50 mpw is the max people need for a sub 3. It's more important what the 40-50mpw consists of and it should be specific to the individuals needs/life/work, etc. If someone is running more than 50mpw and not breaking sub 3 (and they want to) then it's a training issue.
@kdtimms25 @brady_h Sub 2:30 is a good job as is sub 3. But neither require much talent.I ran 68 mins for a HM and I wouldn't have considered myself talent. Brady will run a lot faster than he thinks...
It's a lot easier if a person has played competitive sport and, generally, they'll improve quicker and get down to sub 2:30 and beyond easier. There isn't much difference in the volume required for a sub 3 and and sub 2:30. But to press on from sub 2:30 requires more miles and smart training.
@brady_h I’ve coached 735 people to sub 3; the vast majority in the past 10 years. Only 2 ran more than 50mpw. Talent isn’t important for sub 3. Most people aiming for sub 3 have the potential ceiling to do it but don’t know how to go about it. Talent is more important for 1500m-10k.
