Some kids making us proud with their poise and bravery in front of a reporter, others making us proud for their hard work in the weight room ๐ช๐ช๐ช
Two of our girls are cheerleaders and selling apparel and need some support for new uniforms. If you're looking for Roller gear, please consider supporting Kennedy King and Reagan King by purchasing and entering one of their names at checkout!

At our very first meeting, I asked the kids who wanted to go to college. No one. And even if they wanted to, they believed they couldn't afford it.
Today, we did a project where we wrote on the outside of a bowl what we want in the future. All of them wrote college.

I haven't been great at social media updates, but here's what we've been up to: the kids wrote the alphabet, then added one word per letter that described their loved one in prison, their feelings about it or prison itself. Then we made some of the words into resin paperweights.
The carnival was a huge success! Another huge turnout - so huge that I'm sore today from working so hard! It was great to see all our kids again & to meet a few new faces who we will hopefully see in a few weeks. Join us Sept 26 at 7am for our 1st meeting of the year!
Exciting news: one of our artists sold her first piece of art to a POPS Club supporter - and that woman would like to speak with our artist about art school scholarship opportunities. So proud!!
Happy Summer! To the group of you that we missed today: see you in the Fall!
We have some Roller authors!! Our POPS (Pain of the Prison System) Club membersโ works are published again in the newest anthology and itโs hot off the press!! So proud of them and their hearts! @Jmorrisonart@hbobula@SteelHighPOPS
We sure had some proud "Mom" moments the last two nights. These girls were so impressive (and brave.) They are 9th graders, but they stood on a stage with adult college students and were the stars of the show. They were great Thursday, even better Friday. Congratulations to them!
Come out & support 2 brave young ladies as they participate in this public reading TONIGHT & TMRW NIGHT. Tonight, we are rushing out after the kids are done reading. Tomorrow night, we will be sticking around after the event & most of our kids will be with us. We hope to see you!
@CentralPenn we are so excited for Steel High students to debut in their first Theatrical Coffeehouse at your school!!! @SteelHighPOPS@SHHS_SD Please plan to attend one of the two nights!
Blackout poetry project, part 2 this morning. At first, the kids struggled a bit. But after a few suggestions to get them moving, we were very impressed with their work! Most still need illustrated, but we're off to a great start.
This week, we started another new project. We took pages out of a book and burned the edges. Next week, we will create blackout poetry with these by highlighting only the words we want to keep and painting over all the others. Transforming one work of art into another.
Our kids will be at these two events, reading their writing & things written by other POPS kids. It takes incredible bravery to get on stage & read stories that are so personal to a live audience. We are so proud of them!
Mark your calendars!
