Congratulations to Alix Booms, Ph.D; Shelby Compton, Ph.D; and Rae House, Ph.D, who recently received their Ph.D. in molecular and cellular biology from Van Andel Institute Graduate School!
To learn more about the role of Nf1 in pretumorigenic mammary stromal cells, check out our newest publication in @FrontCellDevBio π

Congrats to first author @amenusha , @VAInstitute cores, & collaborators that contributed to this study π #EndNF
π Excited to share part of my PhD work with @SteensmaLab is now published in @FrontCellDevBio π§¬
We showed that germline Nf1 mutation in rats disrupts mammary adipocyte differentiation & increases collagen deposition prior to breast cancer formation π

Registration closes May 10 for the VAI Epigenomics Workshop. This 3-day, hands-on, problem-based experience will immerse PhD students in the latest epigenomics research and techniques. Please share with anyone who might be interested! https://t.co/OgvPnnbaOc
Excited to share our newest publication in @oncogenejournal π

p53 loss drives a selective clonal advantage in MPNST by promoting acquired resistance to targeted kinase inhibition and modulating lineage plasticity pathways.
In our latest publication in @theJIDJournal, we developed a patient-derived explant model for cutaneous neurofibromas that can be leveraged for mechanistic studies and preclinical drug testing.
As proof of principle, we employed our novel explant model to extend our prior findings regarding differences between downstream RAS-mediated inflammation in CNFs. We found that ex vivo glucocorticoid treatment was able reduced inflammation in these explants.
Congratulations to graduate student, Rae House, on her first first author publication! π
Thank you to our funding sources, coauthors, collaborators, and @VAInstitute cores for all their contributions to this project.
Excited to share a new publication from our lab - NF1 deficiency drives metabolic reprogramming in ER+ breast cancer.

Congratulations to our two new graduates - Dr Lauren McGee and Dr Menusha Arumugam! ππ Both are moving on to postdoc positions; Lauren @sydney51605 with the LeBlanc Lab at NIH and Menusha @amenusha with the @Hilgendorf_Lab at U of Utah. We will always be rooting for you π
All the love and support I had through the past 6 years was condensed into such a special graduation day! Officially a @SteensmaLab and @VAInstitute Graduate School alumni! ππ€ Excited to move out west this summer and start the next stage of my journey with the @Hilgendorf_Lab
