A panel discussion on the theme “Scaling up Climate Finance for a Sustainable and Resilient Maharashtra” was organised at the Jio World Convention Centre as part of Mumbai Climate Week. The Hon’ble Minister for Environment and Climate Change, Government of Maharashtra, attended the session.
While speaking on the occasion, she emphasized that environmental and climate change issues should be viewed not only as policy priorities but also as a moral responsibility. She expressed confidence that youth awareness is the true strength of climate action and that understanding our responsibility is key to securing our future.
She further stated that environmental education needs greater emphasis at the school level and should be introduced as an independent subject for the next generation, similar to civics. She stressed that planned and responsible decision-making is essential to reduce environmental damage and highlighted the need for greater vigilance to ensure that the burden of future crises does not fall on the coming generations.
Among those present were MITRA's Chief Executive Officer Pravin Pardeshi, Environment and Climate Change Department Secretary Jayshree Bhoj, WRI India Chief Executive Officer Madhav Pai, WRI India Associate Program Director Saransh Bajpai, and CEEW Program Lead Dr. Pushpa Bajaj.

पर्यावरण आणि हवामान बदलाच्या प्रश्नांकडे केवळ धोरणात्मक नव्हे, तर नैतिक जबाबदारी म्हणून पाहिले पाहिजे. तरुणाईची जागरूकता हीच हवामान कृतीची खरी ताकद असून आपली जबाबदारी समजली तर भविष्यही समजते, असा विश्वास यावेळी बोलतांना व्यक्त केला.
तसेच,पर्यावरण शिक्षणाला शालेय पातळीवर अधिक महत्त्व देण्याची गरज असून नागरीक शास्त्राप्रमाणेच पर्यावरण हा स्वतंत्र विषय म्हणून पुढील पिढीपर्यंत पोहोचवला पाहिजे. पर्यावरणीय हानी कमी करण्यासाठी नियोजनपूर्वक आणि जबाबदारीने निर्णय घेणे आवश्यक आहे. भविष्यातील संकटांचा भार पुढील पिढीवर पडू नये, यासाठी अधिक सजगतेची गरज असल्याची ग्वाही यावेळी बोलतांना दिली.
