HIV thrives where gender inequality persists.
This #IWD2026, we join @UN_Women in calling for rights, justice, and action #ForAllWomenAndGirls, including women & girls living with and affected by HIV.

While in Brasília for @UNAIDS 57th Programme Coordinating Board, we took a day to meet with lawmakers and tour sites focused on accelerating progress on ending #AIDS. Our tour started with a visit to the exhibition: “40-year Anniversary of the HIV/AIDS Response in Brazil." We then visited the PrEP Service of the University Hospital of Brasília; the Mixed Parliamentary Front for Combating STIs, HIV/AIDS, and Viral Hepatitis - a cross-party coalition within the Brazil’s National Congress that brings together lawmakers, health professionals, and civil society representatives to advance policies and political commitment toward eliminating these diseases by 2030; the Ceilândia Clinic - located in one of Brasília’s most vulnerable regions it specializes in treating people with advanced HIV and AIDS and re-engages people living with HIV to treatment; and the Specialized Centre for Infectious Diseases of the Federal District (CEDIN-DF) - a public referral service dedicated to the diagnosis, follow-up, and treatment of medium- and high complexity infectious diseases, including HIV/AIDS, viral hepatitis, tuberculosis, sexually transmitted infections. @UNAIDS
So grateful for members - current and past - of @UNAIDS Programme Coordinating Board's NGO delegation and other members of civil society who join our meetings as observers. UNAIDS is unique in the UN system as it offers a formal place at our decision making tables for communities and civil society. As always, we heard your voices loud and clear at last week's 57th PCB board meeting. And thank you for raising them.
An eventful, complex but successful @UNAIDS Programme Coordinating Board meeting has come to an end. We have a new Global AIDS Strategy 2026-2031 and a lot to do next year. We heard much support for UNAIDS from communities and UN Member States. Thank you Brazil for making it happen!
People living with #HIV can now pursue any career in the UK Armed Forces, including as military pilots and aircrew, for the first time. Well done to all involved in reaching this landmark decision! @THTorguk@BritishHIVAssoc@UNAIDS#WorldAIDSDay2025
This change happened because people living with HIV never give up, and because Terrence Higgins Trust and @BritishHIVAssoc made clear that a better way was possible.

We have reached a remarkable moment.
For the first time, ending new HIV transmissions in England by 2030 is within reach.
Backed by £170 million, our new HIV Action Plan tackles stigma, expands testing, strengthens prevention and makes sure people get the care they deserve.
Terrific discussion with @pkinemo, MSI's Country Director for Tanzania; Dr. Charles Ssonko of @MSF_canada and Lord Smith, former Secretary of State hosted by the @Independent in which we discussed the impacts of foreign aid cuts on our efforts to end #AIDS as a public health threat by 2030. Despite these cuts, we can achieve our goal with the right resources given to the right communities at the right time – including new preventative drugs capable of helping lower the rate of new infections. @UNAIDS

In advance of #WorldAIDSDay2025, spoke with @DeutscheWelle on the challenges we face to achieving our goal of ending #AIDS as a public health threat by 2030. With cuts to foreign assistance and human rights under increased threat, we are working harder, and in new ways, to ensure all in need can access lifesaving services. @UNAIDS

Despite progress, millions still lack access to HIV prevention and treatment services.
Ending AIDS means empowering communities, investing in prevention and expanding access to treatment for all people.
We have the power to transform lives and #endAIDS once and for all.
Today is #WorldAIDSDay.
The HIV response has always shown what humanity can achieve when we stand united.
Global collective action has saved millions of lives, but shrinking funding now puts this progress at risk.
Leaders must recommit to ending AIDS and saving lives.
Appreciated meeting Germany's Ambassador Antje Leendertse in Geneva earlier this week.
We discussed Germany’s steadfast support to @UNAIDS, our shared commitment to ending #AIDS and how our transformation is aligned with #UN80.
We salute Germany for being a steady partner and for supporting a responsible transformation of UNAIDS. @GermanyUNGeneva@GermanyDiplo
In 2025, sudden US funding cuts and reductions from key donors shocked the global AIDS response.
Today, we're releasing a new report showing how these disruptions unfolded & the resilience of communities and countries protecting progress.

On the eve of #WorldAIDSDay, the @ICALondon is holding a special screening of the @Independent's film about the impact of the international funding crisis on the global #HIV response.
Earlier this year, the newspaper’s Chief International Correspondent, @Beltrew travelled to Uganda and Zimbabwe to film programmes that have been affected.
After the screening I am very much looking forward to joining @pkinemo, MSI’s Country Director for Tanzania; Dr Charles Ssonko, of Médecins Sans Frontières and Lord Smith, former Secretary of State to explore the implications of the cuts.
I’ll also share insights from @UNAIDS new report "Overcoming Disruption, Transforming the AIDS Response."
We can still end #AIDS – but we need global solidarity to get to the finish line!

Pleased to have been in Bonn 🇩🇪 with Dr. Georg Kippels (@BMG_Bund), Prof. Dr. @hendrikstreeck, @PaulZubeil, Peter Wiessner, Anne von Fallois and other key partners.
Our conversations could not be more timely. As the world navigates multiple, intersecting crises, Germany continues to stand firm in its leadership on global health and its support for global solidarity.
We discussed how UNAIDS, the German Federal Government and Bonn-based partners can adapt and accelerate our collective response to #endAIDS.
Thank you, Germany, for your strong and continued commitment which has been instrumental in strengthening UNAIDS’ presence in Bonn and, by extension, our critical work in the global HIV response.
