@TheShokster Just because Meursault doesn’t grieve “normally” I don’t believe it is an excuse for the prosecutor to call him heartless or deranged. Meursault is different and the prosecutor uses those differences to jump to a conclusion about his character #laylit18

On page 37 the narrator says “I wasn’t expecting anything”, he seems to have no expectations on how life should be lived which therefore frees him from society’s expectations. He doesn’t have set expectations and he is contempt with this feeling of the unknown #laylit18

@janwei_ I think he has difficulty connecting with humans, the only exciting connection he has was with the girl at the beach but even that ended blankly. Animals are often viewed as innocent so perhaps he feels a deeper level of connection and ability to bond with them #laylit

Meursalt talks in very sort, simple sentences throughout the book. This could convey mental immaturity or he could be in shock from his mother’s passing. It is also interesting that there aren’t indentations for new dialoge, it is incorporated in the paragraphs #laylit18

The narrator eats eggs in chapter 2 which reminds me of TSAR when it says “it’s easy to be hard boiled during the day”. Maybe he is hiding his grief about his mom and needs to release the emotions to truly let himself mourn #laylit18
