This is what your corn leaves (3rd & 4th below cob) should look like when corn is nearing physiological maturity. This field is 5 km west of N deficiency field and had a 2nd application of N+S applied at V6- V8. NOTE: the 7th leaf below cob is showing deficiency (YDrops at V12!)

When your corn leaves show this (N deficiency) you will have tip fill like this. DO NOT blame this on the hybrid. Late season N is critical to ensure the corn can reach the yield potential that was established early in the season. K may be a factor but symptoms are N

Nice distribution of Ameadus prills from New Leader spinner spreader. I believe the Y-Drop application in the “wet zone” would have better uptake by corn roots. Our VRT Ameadus rates from 100 - 200 lbs/acre and good interpretation of yield data should provide some answers

This is near the maximum height of corn for VRT N with a high clearance spinner spreader WITHOUT a lift kit. Planted June 8 = 48 days after planting.

Individual nozzle control stops each streamer as it enters areas with very poor (or NO wheat) = $ saved. VRT Nitrogen script is also applying less N in the best areas as soil ENR is providing extra N. VRT rates are 15-25 gpa. Technology is helping us manage variable wheat stands

This new “right” may force farmers to adopt 4R Nutrient Stewardship practices sooner, than later. I believe timing of manure applications when crops are established is optimum BMP. Applying to standing corn with drag hose is going to get a good look in 2019. ⁦@4Rnutrients⁩

Kirk VanWill explains - we are seeing a wide variation in yield response to sulphur applied to wheat and corn fields. Soil type plays an important part. This reinforces the need for each farmer to do on-farm trials. We need yield data. ⁦@OntarioSoilCrop⁩ ⁦@TVRSCIA⁩
