Let me give you an example of how to lie with statistics.

Between 1995 and 2019, 3,905 Americans were killed by terrorist attacks. This averages out to 163 deaths per year. However, 2,976 of those deaths occurred on 9/11 alone. That's an extreme outlier. If you exclude it, the average drops to 39 per year.

So by including the outlier of 9/11, that gives the false impression that more than four times as many Americans are killed by terrorists in any give year than in actuality.

You should be able to see how one can use numbers to say something that's technically true but use it to mislead and push narratives.
