Here's the good stuff for "law/architecture/design" nerds. These buildings/spaces were born in a period bookended by Great Recession and COVID-19 Pandemic. Technology developed at warp speed. Dispute-resolution practices changed. Have the nation's secular cathedrals kept pace?
NCSC has released "The Retrospective of Courthouse Design 2011-2020," which highlights and illustrates the architectural innovations designed to accommodate evolving judicial work environments over the past decade. Read the publication here: https://t.co/Cp10pKNOOx
@jtashea I think @ATJResources has a library of research showing the economic benefits of legal aid. I'd check with NCSC too, to see if they have anything about the justice-system efficiency that comes with having a legal aid or pro bono advocate to help navigate the system.
Twitter people have already ID'd what's wrong on the merits with this Insecure Former Law School Gunner "That Ain't Me" Bingo Grid. I'll just note the "who/that" inconsistency which shocks my snowflake grammar conscience.
@LadyLawyerDiary have you seen this "advice" from BCG Attorney Search? Trying to wrap my head around thinking it's ok to advise against hiring parents/caretakers who have taken time away for family. Or govt attys. Or anyone not motivated by $$$. So much elitism in one graphic!
This is helpful for civil #legalaid programs with limited budgets for website design/development (read: all civil legal aid programs). Includes a lengthy "how to fix common accessibility problems" catalog.
2/2 #Legalaid also delivers on racial equity goals. “If we are…committed to eliminating racial and ethnic disparities...one of the simplest steps we can take…is to make it possible for more people to receive #legalaid.” Chief Justice Kimberly Budd. https://t.co/38jqcoUAJ3 #a2j
1/2. Chief justices in states across the US support civil #legalaid and #a2j for different reasons: boosting court efficiency, fair treatment for people who don’t have $, delivering the help that fit individual needs, like self-help, #languageaccess, etc. https://t.co/ui0QTccFBF
In NH, a new Access to Justice (#a2j) Commission report connects aging, poverty, and disability with need for #legalaid. "Debt collection for those with disabilities...emerged...as an area of heightened need along with housing and domestic relations." https://t.co/ulAxwSiFKi
The toll #evictions take on people and neighborhoods is one reason why @TheNCCRC and allies push for 1) legal policy reforms that give tenants a voice and 2) dispute resolution processes that efficiently and fairly serve both tenants and landlords.
Eviction data is very patchy & incomplete, but here’s what we knew *before* the pandemic "crisis": in 2016 there were 3.7 million eviction filings. For context, in the Great Recession, in 2010, there were 2.8 million mortgage foreclosures initiated. https://t.co/ox9xUVKl3U
This is free, live, online, tonight! "10 Tax Tips for Working People & Families," with special focus on COVID-related stuff like stimulus tax credits and taxability of unemployment benefits. Never been so excited about income taxes. 6:30pm Eastern, at: https://t.co/JXMcjZEERQ

2/2. The second job, a key role with a funder and incubator of civil #legalaid, #probono, and #a2j initiatives, is Associate Director for Grants & COO @ChicagoBarFound - https://t.co/2xI2VLwP1v
1/2. There are two great jobs open for people who like nonprofit operations/compliance and also like #legalaid For both openings, being lawyer is a plus but *not* a requirement. First is @CLSphila, which is hiring a Deputy Director of Ops: https://t.co/Kgxs9rGEbP
100%. It’s rare that I even give a webinar that I haven’t run through *at least* once, ideally multiple times.
I’ve rehearsed talks in dozens of empty hotel rooms - regardless of expected audience size.
Practice is the biggest thing you can do to improve your public speaking.
An @nyt op-ed by @kristinllin surveyed nonprofits throughout the US about the toll a yearlong pandemic's taken on client communities. A #legalaid attorney @LegalAidNYC highlighted job loss, threat of homelessness, & kids w/out remote learning access. #a2j https://t.co/C0DI8wcmgi
Civil #legalaid orgs can benefit from federal grant $, but it's hard to know the access points. The Justice in Government Project's toolkit includes funding info & examples of effective projects throughout the US: https://t.co/YYBHImINhf #a2j
Wash. Post's editorial board urges Biden Admin to focus on civil #a2j "...through a concerted...push to make legal advice and aid more widely available to those who cannot secure it on their own." Supporting #legalaid = supporting fairness for all, no matter how much $ they have.
A @washingtonpost op-ed urges a "...high-profile push to make legal advice and aid more widely available to those who cannot secure it on their own." https://t.co/LmoI7L5E9s
Criminal justice reform gets most media attention when it comes to laws that unfairly impact low-income people & communities of color, but civil #legalaid, #a2j, #righttocounsel advocates are pushing hard for *civil* justice reform too: https://t.co/qvIRxCNgxZ
