HSR aside, there isn't even a conventional speed train making this trip. It's insane that in a province where almost every small town has a rail line through the city centre, no passenger rail services exist minus a bad federal long distance train with 2x weekly service.
The real problem in cities and suburbs has never been that the cars we have aren’t good enough (they definitely aren’t). The real problem is too many cars, “driven” in large part by car dependency by design. Better cars won’t solve that problem & could actually help it get worse.
Canadian family doctors! Are you interested in voting against the 3 year FM residency plan in the upcoming CFPC meeting?
Details on how to do this are in the blog post linked below 👇🏻
You do NOT have to attend the meeting but have to appoint a proxy by 5pm Monday Oct 30th!
I am not a family doc, but so many of the arguments re: extending length of training are very weak. I worry that MD training is precisely WHY we have the crisis we do. Let me break it down by the arguments provided 🧵 : 1/

This Spanish city centre has been car-free for 20 years. 12k people have moved into the centre since the ban. The Mayor says vehicles don’t have more right to public space than people — & he’s been re-elected 4 times since banning cars. Pontevedra via @WEF
Thoughtful thread-running health care systems: local decision making/decentralization can be a double edged sword.
I also tend to suggest that a starting assumption that "AHS needs to be fixed" may not be appropriate as it is comparatively superior in many ways.
@SamRochadotcom The linked tweet has been deleted, but if this is about extremes of geography, I think Krakow is north of Winnipeg (just barely - under 10’ of latitude)
Reasons I have seen people approved for MAiD:
- poverty
- loneliness
- homelessness
- mental illness (note this is not permissible under current law as the sole reason for MAiD, but almost everyone with severe mental health conditions has physical illnesses too)
I believe that the public believes MAiD is used primarily or exclusively in cases of intractable suffering - eg terminal cancer patients with pain or nausea, which has not responded to many treatment attempts.
From what I have seen over the past year, this is not the case.
cw: MAiD
I realize this is a strong position and likely leaves me on an island. I do wonder if there are other MDs with similar views who have been too shy to speak up.
I believe MAiD in Canada is out of control and a moratorium is needed until it can be completely overhauled
Do you ever do formal evaluations of other people?
Students in university, college, internships of any kind are assessed by their programs but assess their teachers/supervisors too, managers evaluate and are evaluated, etc.
Pause before doing the evaluation and think...
