@DavidAstinWalsh When I was chair the admin demanded that we articulate how history promoted career success. All the nonsense rationales we came up with had nothing to do with wokeness. It was all about specific careers that history major might pursue.
@CrotserJeremiah The state of scholarship (of some professors in some disciplines) and the crisis facing the humanities (budgets, enrollments, hiring, publishing, etc) are only very tenuously related.
@tonyannett The first Allied soldiers to land in Normandy were airborne and glider troops who arrived hours before the amphibious beach landings. The first specific unit to touch down was D Company of the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry (British).
@Tyler_A_Harper My "woke" colleagues didn't care one bit about about debt/tuition. They wanted to delegitimize an earlier generation of scholars so that they could rethink their fields and write about new things (or find new dissertation topics).

@JohnDSailer This report seems to seek internal causes for developments which are largely the result of external economic and cultural forces. Students who chose not to major in the humanities have only the slightest understanding of what is going on inside disciplines.
@DavidAstinWalsh The study of the Right in my field (modern France) was very much a minority niche that was regarded with some suspicion when I wrote my diss. on royalists in the 1980s I did get a TT job. In any event, this is no longer the case.
We have plenty of ideoogical diversity in the college. The old white guys claim the college is ageist, faculty of color claim institutional racism, and women faculty claim sexism. Meanwhile, we cut tenure track faculty lines and increasing hire adjuncts to cover our courses.
