Back in 1989, when Liverpool won the FA Cup against Everton, something very special happened that I’ve never forgotten.

After the Hillsborough disaster, all the families were invited into Anfield. We got to know Roy Evans, who was part of the coaching staff at Liverpool under Kenny Dalglish. Over time, we became friends with Roy and his lovely wife, Mary. They would often come and visit us and see how we were getting on.

I had put a verse in the Liverpool Echo for my Dad before his funeral and It went something like this:

“I hope they play that game, Dad,
and get to Wem-b-ley,
and win that cup with all their hearts, for you e-speci-ally.”

On the Saturday when Liverpool won the FA Cup. The very next day, on the Sunday, I went to the cemetery to visit my Dad’s grave. I remember telling him that Liverpool had won the cup.

When I drove into my mum’s close, I could see loads of children gathered around my mum’s house, and for a moment, I felt this sudden panic. But as I got closer, I noticed Roy’s car parked outside — and then I saw my younger brother standing there holding the FA Cup! 😍😍❤️

When I went into the house, Mary Evans said to me:

“Roy and I read your verse in the Echo. When we arrived back at Anfield on the coach from Wembley. Roy asked Kenny if he could take the cup to a family. Kenny agreed, but he said, ‘For God’s sake, don’t lose it — and make sure you bring it back!’” 🤣🤣🤣

Mary was such a lovely lady, and Roy Evans is a true gentleman.

I remember thinking about my Dad that day, imagining him looking down from above 🌈 with the biggest smile on his face.

I don’t think many people know this story, and it’s one that I will always treasure. ❤️⚽️🏆

You don't give your shirt away, during a tie in which you have been demolished, while the game is still being played. The separation from what some players think is ok and what fans know to be insulting is becoming stratospheric.

I think this one image sums up the disconnect between the fans and the players at the moment.

What a difference a year makes in that regard. They’re all millionaires and just seem totally disconnected from reality these days.

The away fans especially, invest so much time and money into following the club. They’ll stay until the end and give as much support as they can - but if they see a manager and team who look like they can’t be arsed then you’ll lose their support.

Liverpool fans don’t typically make banners and chant for their own manager being sacked, but leaving early and chanting for another manager is as close as you’re going to get.

The tongue in cheek “Hodgson for England” chant was similar to what happened at the Etihad with the Alonso chant.

The manager has slowly lost the fans, we all hoped he would turn it around but there is just no sign of it happening, surely the owners see that?

I just don’t understand what Szoboszlai was trying to achieve too. He could see there was hardly any left, the ones that are left, are simply not going to applaud that capitulation.

Time for change, before the rot truly sets in and we go back to winning the odd cup.

Mark Garvey was 15 years old when he went missing on 2 March 1987 from Walton, Merseyside. He left home to visit his girlfriend in West Derby. With only the money for his bus fare in his pocket, Mark’s parting words to his mother, Dot Hughes were “mum, I’m going now” as he walked out the door.

Described as 5ft 3in in height and of slim build, pale complexion, freckles with brown hair and brown eyes. The last confirmed sighting of Mark was at a bus stop near the Jolly Miller pub on Queen’s Drive, West Derby. It later emerged the teenager found his girlfriend with his best friend, they argued and he left her house in tears.

In the beginning, police worked tirelessly searching the area with tracker dogs and made enquiries with friends and staff at the De La Salle school in Croxteth. The family arranged an announcement on the loudspeaker system at Goodison Park, the previous home of Mark’s beloved Everton Football Club. Despite joint efforts and national publicity, no trace of the teenager has been found nor has there been any reported sightings.
