I hate replay in sports. But this is how it’s SUPPOSED to work. 1) Limited to game changing plays. (No challenge on the first missed call that merely resulted in a strike instead of a ball.) 2) Immediate! (Takes less than 15 seconds!).
In a tie game in the 9th, umpire John Bacon called a strike to Rob Refsnyder that missed outside by 2.71 inches. Then, he tried to call him out on a pitch that missed by 5.97 inches.
This was the largest miss on a called strikeout this season.
Refsnyder challenged and the call was overturned.
A few pitches later, he hit a home run to give the Mariners the 3-2 lead they won by.
Needing to clear 7 feet in order to take home the Drake Relays title, Waukee sophomore Ajak Malual got it done, and the emotions followed. Hear from the talented young athlete after his outstanding performance.
