When it comes to Bad Bunny's Super Bowl halftime show, everyone wants to sound so woke and claim "I love all music!" I was at a big Super Bowl party and watched the Spanish-speaking people go crazy over the songs, while everyone else sat there in silence because they not only didn't know any of the songs but also had no idea what the lyrics were saying. Bad Bunny is a lyricist, so you can't say it's just a vibe, and the language doesn't matter. And many of the people at the party were professional musicians. I don't know why this is a real discussion.
The idea that Cole is being “performative” by selling CDs to his fans hand to hand is RIDICULOUS.
More performative than album release parties? Red Carpets? Staged photo shoots? Late night TV appearances? Calling paparazzi on yourself?
What are we talkin about?
🚨 Akademiks says the Drake ICEMAN snippet generated more buzz than J. Cole’s entire album drop “the fall off”
Ak says the Iceman teaser he played on release day ended up out trending The Fall Off, saying the snippet pulled more headlines and conversation than Cole’s full project.
He says the timing was intentional a “hip-hop moment” and claims if he had a Kendrick or Cole snippet, he would’ve played that too.
Ak admits Drake fans weren’t happy, Cole’s camp wasn’t happy, and nobody liked the move, but says he did it for the moment and the culture.
