Trump's address on thursday was, of course, aimed at undermining the integrity of US elections running into the 2026 midterms. And to show how anti-democratic they were, the real story was how the one thing he protected in the address was Putin's Russia. Always Putin's Russia.
Jonathan Swan says that when President Trump returned to office, he pressured the intelligence community to produce some kind of evidence proving that the 2020 election was stolen, and that Trump’s Thursday night address was the best they could do.
Jonathan Swan: One way of looking at last night is as the culmination of an almost six-year effort. We have some reporting in the book that, in early 2021, Trump was telling people privately that he thought he could be reinstated as president that summer and was being encouraged by some people around him that this was a possibility.
When he came back into power this term, he started to put pretty intense pressure on the intelligence community to come up with some kind of evidence that could prove the 2020 election was stolen.
Last night, one way of looking at it is that this is the best they can do. Essentially, this was their best effort to prove that case. Of course, they didn’t. But that’s the genesis of last night.
To my American followers: The Ukrainian Community of Maryland and Arts Against Aggression are collecting signatures to urge the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra to cancel the performance of pro-Putin violinist Vadim Repin. You can sign the petition here: https://t.co/x9enJUzgpn
Republicans get away with garbage like this because their lies are so egregious, so easily disproven, so replete through the Republican Party, that everyone just accepts how infinitely stupid they are and moves on.
Interesting fact about this morning's attack on the logistical site in the Tambov region: it was not in Tambov itself, but in Kotovsk. The civilian toll was high because the town simply has no air raid warning system. The mayor is a former KGB/FSB cadre and a staunch supporter of the war today. Back in the 1990s, he worked for the emerging oligarchs. That's how Russia works: the wealthy oppressors live off the backs of ordinary people.
@USAmbNATO@NATO Not true, Europe is building its own defense because of themthreats from an insane enemy in the East combined with the former ally in the West coming out as a bully and being completely reckless and unreliable. And Europe is cutting out the US defense industry in the process.
This is the last time @DemSocialists mentioned Ukraine - nearly 4 years ago and the only reason they brought it up was to complain that we were giving them too much money.
Now take a guess, how many times do you think they’ve mentioned Israel or Palestine?
I’m sorry, but we are not spending more on our security because of President Trump - that would never fly with the European voters - but because of President Putin. That should be obvious.
The German army is scrambling to fill its ranks. It’s far short of achieving the number of troops it has promised NATO. One reason: Women are disproportionately uninterested in joining.
‘We need to treat the Odyssey as sacred text—‘ well, no, actually. A work that is rooted in oral tradition and stories told and retold over and over again, which has been adapted over 30 times (if we’re only counting the screen adaptations!) in recent history is gonna be fine.

“Every bit of intelligence has been reviewed a million times, and it’s never turned up anything on China,” said Dennis Wilder, former National Security Council director for China under the George W. Bush administration. “Unless there’s a smoking gun somewhere that someone can produce that no one ever looked at, which seems highly unlikely, this thing doesn’t go anywhere.”

This is really incredible. Docs released by Trump tonight confirm RUSSIA tried to spread claims Biden was engaged in criminal activity vis-a-vis Burisma and that it advanced those narratives "with US officials" and planed a "high-profile corruption scandal... at the peak of the 2020 US presidential campaign."
Russia in recent weeks focused on targeting the warehouses of Nova Poshta, Ukraine’s private logistics and postal service. Today Kyiv reciprocated with strikes on warehouses of Wildberries, the Russian equivalent of Amazon, in the Moscow region and Tambov.
“I don’t want anything to do with Spain. They’re hopeless, bad people.”
Trump's hatred is another reason to want Spain to win the World Cup.
You never know, the lying sexual predator might refuse to hand over the trophy and keep it for himself.
