@reveaIism I don't blame Olise. You just need to look at the dog-whistling in previous years over some missed penalties to understand why someone would have no desire to play for England.
@Olly25Olly@nnnnnnxox Sure, I completely agree. Equally I grew up with very little money but am not from a working class background. How others perceive us may also be different.
Perhaps a framing I'd use is that she doesn't appear to be trying to cosplay as working class, and sees herself as that.
@nnnnnnxox@Olly25Olly She didn't go to any notable schools, drama school etc. Pretty much anyone from money/status will have gone to private school, and a lot will follow that with RADA or Julliard.
She could well be stretching the truth on how bad it was, but she's not lying about her roots.
@Olly25Olly@nnnnnnxox Outside generational wealth/status, the greatest tool in classism is the private schooling system.
Millie doesn't come from generational wealth and didn't go to any of the traditional schools. In that respect she is 'culturally' working class.
@EFCevie Not all of us. I would love to see a more distributed and even spread of wealth across the UK.
Not too long ago a colleague of mine was on HS2, and we were both arguing the point that starting at Glasgow would have given far greater value than London.
@pelicandro68336@Arnold_Platon My daughter is learning about dinosaurs at school so we hopped on a train to Natural History to walk around. We read Greek myths together so popped up to the British Museum to look at the marbles.
Yes, I find it fascinating that people are scared of those things being possible.
How to get Americans to watch soccer:
1. Get rid of the stupid offsides rule
2. Get rid of flopping, dudes acting like they got shot anytime they are touched
3. Get rid of ties
@Floridagirl0850@highdesertgirl Washer dryers exist as an option for people that don't have the space for both.
An Airbnb is not remotely indicative of how people live normally; they will usually install the cheapest possible appliances so they're cheap to replace if they break.
@cd_hooks Air conditioning is a net positive heat generator. I do think it is essential for bedrooms nowadays, but it is not a panacea.
We should be planting more greenery, removing carbon from the grid, installing solar on houses. AC is just one small element which should be minimal.
@TheGhoulestMom It is what people are used to and adapted for. When I worked in California there was an office safety moment to remind people to be careful driving because there was a light drizzle. When I hosted colleagues from India in London in the summer they were all wrapped in coats. ๐คท
@sapphyreblayze There has to be an increase in the availability of cool spaces for people as the world heats. It's inevitable that will lead to more AC, but there has to be a rapid transition to green energy to mitigate the impact of that as much as possible.
@Bh_Pov@typeclonghouse In reality we pay less tax than that (I'm around 30) and don't have to pay for medical insurance. We get 5.6 weeks legal minimum paid vacation.
Europeans generally have less savings than Americans, but we can afford to spend it on holidays because we have better safety nets.
