Makes sense, Keir. Thanks.
Call their bluff.
Close all local UK operations, so that no employees or corporate officers can be arrested.
Refuse to comply, and dare them to geoblock. Without Google and Apple, the UK economy would probably collapse. It isn't so much that those services are crucial (although they are), it's that Britain is already on the fiscal brink and all it would really take is a little push.
I'm sure blocking the Internet would go over really well with the British people, too.
@CalixerGC This was the result of people who claimed digital ID wasn't a big deal and said to just do it if you had nothing to hide
Idiot people like that are allowing the government to dip their toes into stripping privacy from people more and more, those people are to blame for this...
Big business doesn't stop just because it's #Kaijune, if anything it gets bigger. Bout to sell a few megatons of chicken.

This is the kind of thing the international community condemns China or North Korea for doing. Anyone who thinks we’re still a free country is completely deluded.
theres a real difficulty in trying to talk about the UK because they're simultaneously doing a bunch of a totalitarian shit while not actually having any kind of national project to justify it, their leadership class is just schizophrenic and thinks everyone else is insane
Are you serious?! Stop using "child safety" as a guise for surveillance. Labour, you did not include this in your manifesto. No one asked for this. If you care about child safety, fund education or community centres. There is a reason NO western European nation has gone this far
You cannot verify someone is over 18 without collecting data, and you cannot block specific types of imagery without monitoring private communications.
These claims make no sense.
A ban won't work.
It just isn't that difficult to circumvent these sorts of bans, and among kids who don't circumvent, many simply switch to non-compliant sites.
But you'll have to hand over ID to access legal content, just like with the Online Safety Act.
