Currently A severe geomagnetic storm taking place and affecting parts of the United States. The NOAA Space Weather issued a warning for a Kp index of 8 to low-end 9, which is a G4 out of a G5 rating. This means it's a severe geomagnetic storm, the second next to an extreme storm. People located north of the green line will be able to see auroras on the horizon. The storm will continue throughout the night and into the early morning.

@radioinsight Back in the early 90s, I was able to bandscan the AM band from a mile outside of Dublin late at night on an old kitchen radio, the only US signal I got was WBAL and it was quite steady & listenable.

At 8 pm the temperature on the summit of Mount Washington NH was down to -46 F. The coldest temperature ever recorded at this station (-47 on January 29, 1934). Records at @MWObs go back to 1933. The 96 mph winds (gusts to 127 mph) are producing a wind chill of -108 F.
