On World Refugee Day, Fatima Payman has been elected to the Senate!
She is 27 years old.
She came to Australia as a refugee from Afghanistan.
And she’s the first hijab wearing woman elected to Parliament.
Young multicultural women belong in Parliament - and Fatima is proof.
I look forward to #WorldRefugeeDay every year - a chance to celebrate the strength of refugees and underscore the precious right to seek asylum, a fundamental human right.
There is nothing more important this #WorldRefugeeDay.
