Quand il était président, Charles de Gaulle estimait que l’argent public devait être strictement intouchable.

Au Palais de l’Élysée, il était impensable que l’État prenne en charge la moindre dépense personnelle.

Son épouse, Yvonne de Gaulle, tenait un petit carnet dans lequel elle notait avec rigueur toutes les dépenses du foyer : électricité, nourriture, vêtements, savon… rien n’était laissé au hasard.

Chaque mois, le couple envoyait un chèque au Trésor public afin de rembourser ces frais strictement privés.

Un jour, le comptable de l’Élysée lui fit remarquer que cela n’était « pas nécessaire ».
Elle répondit avec fermeté :
« Tout ce qui n’est pas public est privé, et ce qui est privé, c’est à nous de le payer. »

Leur exigence allait encore plus loin :
leurs enfants et petits-enfants n’avaient pas le droit d’utiliser les voitures officielles pour des déplacements personnels.
Charles de Gaulle refusait les privilèges liés à sa fonction.
Il réglait lui-même toutes ses dépenses à l’Élysée — jusqu’au savon ou aux repas de famille — et avait même choisi de renoncer à son salaire présidentiel, vivant uniquement de sa pension de général.

À sa mort, il ne laissa aucune fortune, seulement sa maison à Colombey-les-Deux-Églises, acquise avant la guerre.
On raconte même qu’il envoyait spontanément des chèques au Trésor public dès qu’un doute existait sur une dépense privée réglée par l’État.

Un sens de l’intégrité et du devoir qui force encore aujourd’hui le respect…
et qui rappelle que le véritable prestige ne réside pas dans les privilèges, mais dans l’exemplarité. 🇫🇷

You’re right: Europe should never have allowed North Korea to send troops to Ukraine.

It should have been a red line. If Pyongyang sends soldiers, NATO sends soldiers — or at least lifts every restriction and gives Ukraine the tools to neutralize them.
Allowing the world’s worst dictatorship to gain combat experience in Europe is a profound moral failure.

To all the Supermarkets and big commercial stores that operate 'Self Check-outs'....

You are heading towards almost exclusively self-checkout now. Yesterday I went shopping at one such store and the lady checking receipts at the exit was stopping everyone.

I didn't choose to participate in that nonsense, I had already filled my trolly, emptied my trolly and scanned the items, refilled my trolly, and so I just skipped the exit line and left.

I heard her saying "Umm - Excuse me “ as I kept walking and raised the receipt above my head, leaving the store.

You can either trust me to do self-checkout, or you can put your cashiers back in place like it used to be.

• I'm not interested in proving that I did your job for you.

• If you want me to be a cashier with no training then that's your problem not mine.

• Keep employing young people and give them job opportunities.

🚨 THIS IS EXACTLY WHY SO MANY OF US ARE SICK OF IT.

Two young British girls on a night out, visibly scared.

A bloke notices something isn’t right, walks over and starts asking if they’re okay. He checks whether the men hanging around them are actually WITH them.

The girls say NO.

One of the men is stood outside the club in jogging bottoms. The girls look terrified.

So this stranger refuses to just walk past and mind his own business. He stays with them and tells the men straight:

STOP HARASSING GIRLS.

And afterwards? The girls THANK him for stepping in.

This is what women and girls are dealing with.

A night out. Walking to a mate’s. Going to the shops. Getting home at night. Constantly looking over your shoulder and wondering whether that bloke following you is going to leave you alone.

And apparently we’re supposed to pretend nobody can see what’s happening?

We’re not “imagining” it.

WE’RE LIVING IT.

When are people going to stop pretending everything is fine?

Massive credit to the man who saw two frightened young women and actually DID something instead of walking away. 👏🇬🇧

Zur Erinnerung!!

Vor genau 18 Jahren, am 7. August 2008, ist Russland in Georgien einmarschiert, tötete über 1.000 Menschen und begingen im ganzen Land Gräueltaten.

Zwar dauerte der Krieg nur fünf Tage, doch bis heute ist der Konflikt ungelöst.

Die offenen Kampfhandlungen zwischen Soldaten der georgischen Armee und südossetischen Milizverbänden begannen bereits im Juli 2008 und eskalierten in der Nacht zum 8. August, in der georgische Einheiten eine Offensive zur Rückgewinnung der Kontrolle über ihre Region begannen.

Daraufhin griffen aus dem Nordkaukasus russische Truppen an und rückten bis ins georgische Kernland vor.

Bis zum Waffenstillstand am 12. August wurden insgesamt etwa 1000 Menschen getötet sowie zwischen 2500 und 3000 Menschen verwundet.

Im April 2008 hatte das Land, ebenso wie die Ukraine, leider noch keinen Membership Action Plan (MAP) (Mitgliedschaftsaktionsplan) von der NATO erhalten.

Auf dem NATO-Gipfel im April 2008 in Bukarest wurde zwar grundsätzlich beschlossen, dass Georgien einmal Mitglied der NATO werden soll, jedoch wurde kein MAP vergeben.

Deutschland, Frankreich und weitere Staaten bremsten damals wie heute die Vergabe eines MAP aus Sorge vor einer Eskalation mit Russland und versäumten es als Bündnispartner auf die Besetzung von 20 % von Georgiens Territoriums zu reagieren, das nach wie vor (2026) unter russischer Herrschaft steht.

Hätten der Westen es gewollt, hätte Moskau es ein für alle Mal verstanden, Georgien wäre frei und die Ukraine hätte Putin nie angegriffen, weder 2014 noch 2022.

UEFA fined Ukraine over a banner calling russia a terrorist state.

Now FIFA reportedly won't punish Argentina for displaying a political banner claiming the Falkland/Malvinas Islands.

If Ukrainian players display "FCK PTN," would they receive the same treatment?

We already know the answer.

The rules are never applied equally.

Apparently, politics are acceptable — unless they're Ukrainian.
