Slasher is a modern sub-genre and I certainly agree that it is practically torture porn. Ultimately, its best to listen to your personal convictions, and if youre not sure, ask your priest. But it doesn't make sense to write off an historically serious medium of expression just because of modern derivations, and then make an objective claim that no Christian should ever give attention to said medium of expression.

Traditional Horror is a deeply Christian genre.

I mean, "Dracula" might be the most overtly Christian novel we have.

"Frankenstein" is less overt, but it is a story about a man aiming above his station and trying to become God, as well as the repercussions of that.

"The Picture of Dorian Gray" is about the consequences of sin and the soul's corruption.

Horror in it's correct form treats evil as real, our choices are meaningful, and transgression against the natural (or divine) order catastrophic.

There are many other examples.

As with anything, use wisdom. The enemy loves to twist what is good.
